    Devious Parking Restrictions

We know Councils and Governments across the globe seem to want to hammer the motorist but my local Council, Barnet, seem to have come up with a devious plan, no idea as to the legality of it either. I took a drive to Cricklewood today to view some places of interest. Whilst chatting to some...

    Privacy and Technology

Privacy is like savings (inflation), generally the erosion of both take place slowly, 10 year olds become twenty and are unaware of general events from 10 years previous, adults tend to forget the privacy we used to have and the almost total lack of it we have now. Everything is online, even...

    The Anti-Car Thread

I'm cynically convinced the idea is to restrict the prols movement as much as possible and this will ease the flow of traffic for the elite to swan around as they wish.

Huge dog v smallest kitten: what happens?

    German Shepherds are great dogs.

    Passkeys

There is a push to replace passwords with passkeys, apparently safer. I'm guessing they work similar to https or ssh connections whereby a public and private key pair are created, both needed for the encrypted connection but the private key never leaves one's device. Now this 'never leaves...

    Dopey Artificial Intelligence

I think it is just something that is useful but check the results. In the early days of computing portable calculators were the thing, I was working with figures at the time but I'd seldom take the initial answer, either check answer manually or an alternate calculation on the device.

How to turn your cat into a lap cat

I think nature and personality come in to it too. At one point many moons ago my late wife and I had 7 cats, all treated the same but all individual. We had one brother and sister, the male cat was very affectionate, the female was very stand offish. Geffers

    Dopey Artificial Intelligence

Here's an amusing one. The current interim manager of Manchester United is Darren Fletcher, there are twin brothers in the United squad, Jack and Tyler Fletcher. I asked duck.com AI if they were related. The answer is as follows: No, *Jack Fletcher* and *Tyler Fletcher* are not related to...

    Electric Heater efficiency

Getting back to my heater comment, sitting right in front of a blow heater one can feel it nicely, but guess it'd be just as good sitting in front of a radiant heater too. The moment the hot air gets blown forward it effectively gets diluted as it mixes with surrounding air. One wonders how...

    Electric Heater efficiency

Yes, funny comment. Odd how people can get sucked in (pun intended) to these ideas.

    Electric Heater efficiency

As winter approaches one often gets adverts for heaters developed by some student who's dad was a rocket technician and these heaters can heat up a warehouse in 2 minutes. Well maybe I have exaggerated slightly but you have probably seen them. From what I understand 1kW is one kW whether it is...

    Maunsel Forts

This may be of interest to some, during WW2 there were a number of forts erected in the Thames Estuary, intended as a defence against German attack by air or sea. After the war they fell into disuse although for a while used by pirate radio station. Sadly, although of historical significance...
