The Smartphone Age and the Death of Offline Life

The new nerdiness will be offline. Mainly because it takes dedication and real effort to withdraw from the online space that evil corporations have so thoroughly hijacked and destroyed.

The official NerdZoner's weather zone! How's your weather today?

Yep! And this weatherman has more I take issue with his comments on summer heat: I can DEFINITELY feel the difference between 110 and 115. 110 is downright hot and 115 is just miserable. One Sunday we had to drive home from church with the windows rolled down because the air went out...

Meanwhile, we had to run the air conditioner over here today..

The BBC can't compete with YouTube, so why not just use underhand tactics to win?

I think they might already do it in the US for Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc.

Why we spend more at self service touch screens

Less friction at the point of sale, sure, but I feel like that is a distraction from the real reason: replacing labor (the biggest expense for companies, even at minimum wage) with machines. Same logic behind self checkout. How much are the staff really judging you for extra fries? I think they...

    The rise of FAFO parenting

I'll need to see if my local Aldi carries aged gouda. I saw 1000 day aged gouda on their website but the local store might not have it because it's not very large.

Lots of purple rain! (I live in the part of Arizona where it says 11)

I've recently tried a smoked gouda for the first time and it tasted like a slightly fancier mozzarella. Quite strong by itself, but great in scrambled eggs. A bit spendy, though, even at Aldi, so sticking with less expensive domestic cheese like cheddar.

The burning question: how long should the perfect cup of tea be brewed for?

Throw it in the microwave! Or is that anathema to the English sensibilities?

Why the price of RAM is shooting up like crazy

I really like that Twittter handle name. Those two simple words provide great meta commentary on the current sad state of affairs.
