    The Climate Change Thread

The UK's Met Office have issued a red heat warning for parts of the country. What was poignant was the BBC reporting that temperatures could "hit 40C for the first time". It would have been unbelievable as a child to be told in my lifetime we'd reach 40C. We've already seen local disruption due...

Why it's so hard to start a forum nowadays

I agree the term forum is archaic. Anyone under 30 looks at you blankly and the light only dawns when you say it's like a Facebook group.

    The COVID-19 thread

LOL shortly after I posted above I got a WhatsApp from a family member (who I hugged on Monday) saying they had Covid too! Frantic dash for last remaining test kit... luckily I'm still negative.

    The COVID-19 thread

It's rife again - many people I know either have it or know someone who has. However symptoms seem mild and pass in a few days. Social distancing and face mask wearing seems to be nonexistent now. Not that it would work with sporting events and festivals all back up to full capacity. I don't...

Greenland and an abandoned US airbase

Stunning scenery (notwithstanding the abandoned airbase) and nicely filmed. Those mosquitoes though o_O

Don't bother using DuckDuckGo for privacy

Sigh... another operation found to be leaking info to someone, somewhere. Hardly surprising though, I don't think genuine privacy ever exists for general internet users.

    The Climate Change Thread

I mean just looking out to sea and seeing a slightly curved horizon should tell you all you need to know. SciManDan on YouTube is a good watch, loves to take them on and debunk it.

    The Climate Change Thread

I do find climate change sceptics quite curious and not in a nice way. You have to wonder, just how many verifiable scientific facts and measurements do some people need to accept it as actually real and happening? And there's no arguing with them either, you're labelled as "brainwashed by the...

Top 10 Synthesizer Riffs Of All Time

What did you go to from the Spectrum (if you did)? For me it was an Amiga, very nice computer, then N64 (GoldenEye another time sink!) before PCs took over the world. Though I'm a Mac user now.

China: MI5 and FBI heads warn of ‘immense’ threat

The worry is our reliance on China for almost everything we import. It's a dependence that makes us weak and we need them more now than ever as prices rise and home production of things is not economically viable. There is no easy solution. What we need is some aliens to arrive, then we'll...

Top 10 Synthesizer Riffs Of All Time

ZX Spectrum user here too!! As obviously a bit older our first computer was a UK101 which needed all the components soldered together. Then we upgraded to the state of the art ZX80 then the ZX81. The Spectrum was amazing and I wasted a great deal of my childhood playing Elite, Sabre Wulf and...

"Poor man's TV", Freeview, to lose quality channels to make way for 5G

There's a lot of great content on BBC4 and it will be a shame if/when that goes online-only. However it's like Radio 4, you either like it or you don't! I'm a Freeview user, more so now in these cash-strapped times. It's a pity there's a stigma attached to it, I sense this in my social circle...

Yep... and I am sure we had a Spirograph and an Etcha-Sketch too. How did we cope before the internet?
