This one is for all the YouTubers on NerdZone and is especially appropriate if you use AI in them. Check out the tips here to avoid a channel ban.

@Hitcore @petermarkley @Retrokomodo you'll want to see this. I don't think your channels are in imminent danger, but it's best to be clued up about how YouTube operates.

This actually seems like good news to me.

I generally agree that this increased enforcement (ideally) shouldn’t be done by AI, because it’s unfair toward the (tiny minority of) legitimate creators in those niches. That’s unfortunate.

But 99% of content in those niches is NOT the result of real effort, and does NOT add value for viewers.

Therefore, to that 99%, I say: good frickin riddance.

This could actually benefit my channel, by trimming down the sea of competition from content that makes the world worse anyway.

Ok, so essentially - for me at least - if I upload a video with a generated song I should probably check the Yes box. Other than that I think i'm safe.. I don't do repetition, or spam, or slop (at least I don't think it's slop) so yeah. I think i'm ok!

This. My content isn't spam where I just shart out two videos a day with copied and pasted random AI narrated text and clickbaity lust or rage provoking thumbnails.
I have elements of AI in my work, yes, but part of it is also really me, which I meticulously form into a blend that reflects my ideas.

It's good that you've shared this, @Retro , I'll be sure to pay attention for that box to check!

@Hitcore Indeed although your work uses AI extensively for the sound and vision, it's very original and creative* and doesn't have that sort of controversy to it so should be safe. I'd tick that AI box though.

@petermarkley from what I've seen of your videos, they're all just you talking to camera (often in the woods!) with your own original content that doesn't have that sort of controversy to it, so I can't see your channel getting nailed.

@Retrokomodo Agreed, your work is also safe from controversy and should only need the AI box ticked when you feature an AI tune to prevent the jaundiced eye of YT AI automoderation from nailing your channel.

Thanks for your replies people. The thing that concerns me most about YT's AI automod is that it can trigger a false positive over nothing and then just kill your channel after three strikes, without any clarity on what caused it, even if there's no AI in it. And as we've seen in this video, "appealing" that decision just goes to the same faulty AI which will inevitably reject your appeal after a few minutes and kill your channel permanently.

I'd hate to earn my living with that threat hanging over me 24/7, killing off my income for good for no reason. I guess it's best to do YT as a side hustle even if it's earning good money so all your eggs aren't in one basket. Spreading their money is how all the rich people operate to protect their wealth.

Me? I have no desire to start up my own channel and wouldn't even know what to talk about. However, if a Real Life friend had a channel, I'd love to muck in and be part of the team. Would also depend on what the channel is about. If it was about knitting, I'd probably pass lol.

Dunno why IMDB links won't unfurl lately. This one's for 1990 movie Misery. If you've watched it, you'll get the reference. ;)

It's so good that I watched it at the cinema at the time and on TV several times since. Might just watch it again soon.

I do get the reference, as I have seen Misery.
