I thought most of the racism against Black people had died down when slavery was abolished in the late 1800s in America, but not so. It was still rife even into the 1920s and later. Well, South Africa and apartheid was still alive and kicking well into the modern era, only ending in the 1990s - remember when it was abolished - so perhaps I shouldn't be too surprised.
This channel documents the various kinds of racism directed at Black people, with lots of videos. This one explains how they were accused of being dirty while all the time forced to live in their own separate communities without water, sanitation, or any way to clean and wash themselves, unlike the white people who had all these things. They were then routinely accused of being "dirty" with regular inspections that found them "guilty" all the time and were then sanctioned for it. I mean, this is just sick and vile, right?
I didn't know about this particular form of racism before watching this video and unfortunately racism still exists today in many forms, if generally not quite so overt, as we all know. No wonder every Black person I know that's talked about this tells me that they've been a victim of it in some way.
Racism against them or anyone else like the Jews etc really makes me sick and you can see why there are efforts to stamp it out. Personally, I don't think it's possible to actually eliminate it as people just believe it due to their own prejudices and biases, but it is possible to suppress it more than it has been to date and educate against it.
I'm glad that this channel, Scope News, exists to raise awareness of these issues and document racism's history, and I think these things should be taught in schools to tackle it at its source when people are at their most impressionable and hence vulnerable to bad influences.
