About time too as trail hunting has been abused to do real hunting for over 20 years now. This is one of the reasons that I wanted Labour to be in power as this would never happen with the tories and unlikely with other parties either. I'm also grateful to all those activists who helped to expose this hunting smokescreen for exactly what it was to raise awareness that eventually resulted in this new law. Legends, all of you, thankyou.

Trail hunting is set to be banned in England and Wales as part of a new animal welfare strategy to be published by the government on Monday.

The practice sees an animal-based scent trail laid for dogs to follow rather than a real animal, while a group of hunters follows the pack on horseback.

It has remained legal since the 2004 hunting ban came into force, because it does not explicitly involve the killing of animals.

The government says it is acting on a manifesto commitment to outlaw a practice being used as a "smokescreen" for the hunting of wild animals. But hunting and countryside bodies say the move was unnecessary and could hurt rural communities.

About time too, this trail hunting was nothing but a disguise, and the poor foxes, as well as other wild animals paid with their lives. Poor wild innocents.
Again, as with the other animal welfare laws, let us hope this law will have teeth, not only a loud bark.
But it is certainly a move in the right direction; on behalf of the innocent animals I am thankful for this initiative.
