Skynet and Total Recall comes to mind. I think the Neuralink brain implants have been implemented prematurely in an effort to "be the first" on the market without regards to the humans that the device has been surgically implanted. I also understand if one was paralyzed they might very well be motivated to consent to a brain implant. It's a double edged sword. It is hope versus an end result that may not go well.

That's also a huge contributing factor to be cautious about. It's not just this device that's a brain-to-computer interface and that some naughty people could take advantage of that and literally hack you. There's also AI that is just getting smarter and smarter and at some point becoming self aware and will potentially aim for control. Good luck to the folks hooked up to the AI hypernet not becoming the freaking Borg!

My fears have always been the small elite/billionaire group that has all of the power with no rules that could destroy the human civilization at will without consequence. I've seen enough science fiction movies that if you look back, sixty years or more, there are glimpses of the future in them that are playing out right now in the present. That's what scares me the most and unfettered power.

Also, what you describe there is predictive programming. That's when media subtly prepares the public for future events by depicting them in fiction, making real occurrences seem more acceptable or less shocking.

Interesting to hear the term predictive programming. I can even think of some Star Trek episodes, both TOST, and STNG that predictive programming applies too.

Here it goes well beyond what modern digital gadgets we use. Things like societal issues and power structure also have a huge part in this, making the resemblances even more striking.

- Communicators --> Smartwatches
- Replicators --> 3D printing
- Universal Translator --> Google Translate
