The Big Blow as it was nicknamed, shattered every performance record (and eardrum) going, but it wasn't to last. New YouTube channel American Ironworks tells its fascinating story.

That sounds like something coming straight out of Thunderbirds. BUT... as I always say: If it looks stupid but it works, it's not stupid.

A good video, that went greatly into detail about the history and the train. But I was missing just one thing: the sound.

So I browser YouTube and found it.

Hear the jet engines at around the 4 minute mark. Of course this doesn't nearly capture the loudness, but it does give an idea of what kind of sound this beast was making!

Good find, I did wonder why there was no example of the sound of this engine.

That really does sound like a jet plane and I thought it would be more screechy. The chuffing steam train after it made for a great contrast between old and new.

Imagine a jet loco made with today's technology: only one carriage and likely quite small too, with much more power. Traction could be an issue though if it's not heavy enough.

Plus, now in the 2020s, that I think Greta Thunberg would also not be too happy about this and start a protest. 😁
