Oh boy. It ain't easy to write what I'm about to write. Thought a lot about it lately. And there isn't really a nice way of putting it, so I'll just say it like it is: there's probably not gonna be any more Hitcore stuff. Never say never, but I just don't see it happening for the foreseeable future. It just feels finished, to be quite honest.

A lot of it stems from these sentiments as far as digital detoxing goes. And for the biggest part that after 16 videos my numbers are as crappy as ever (they have lowered a bit even), despite efforts of promoting the videos up the ass and extensive attempts to trigger algorithmic systems. For instance, I run an X account with a reasonable following of just over 600, mostly because I post kick-ass memes and sarcastic social commentary. But I try to show my Hitcore works there too. The latest video, The Album, got 1900 impressions. But ultimately only 19 views came out of it. That's an engagement ratio of 1%. Similar ratios apply to all other videos as well. Everything else I post there does rather well, everything but the music. Then it's just chirping grasshoppers and tumbling weed.

Artificially I've been trying to boost YouTube visibility as well, with like 7 different accounts, so that it would get higher up in the recommendations. Playing the videos over and over, from beginning to end to appease the system (to the point of becoming pretty sick of my own stuff). Seriously, half the views... are me. So the real numbers of views are even lower than what they appear to be. Despite all efforts basically my true audience is half a dozen relatives, half a dozen old friends from my country, and Retro. No one else gives a shit. To me this is roughly the equivalent of being called handsome by granny, but then in the real world being rejected by just about every girl on the planet.
I didn't expect anything major, but to have A FEW people giving a damn other than my inner circle after all the time and work I've put into these videos would have been nice. My numbers are absolutely pathetic and it doesn't motivate to come up with any more stuff.

So The Album is a goodbye, for now at least. To the 2½ people reading this: thank you for your attention. I'll just go spend my time in a more useful manner now by doing literally anything else.

It's ironic that I do everything I can to live a quiet life but people won't let me, but the one thing that I was passionate about that I would have liked for people to notice passed by nearly undetected.

I'm so sorry to read this, but I thought it might happen. I did check in on your subscriber numbers every so often and it was pretty depressing, so it would demotivate me too. I have a good idea of the time and effort that it takes you to create these videos and how your heart and soul go into them, so you really need some success with them. To get this result after the promotion that you've done is really disheartening.

I really like your unique sound and don't know why it doesn't catch on. It's the age old question of what makes a hit song or movie, isn't it? There's no definitive answer.

What's happened with you isn't all that different to here. About 100 active accounts, but the regularly active members can be counted on one hand and most are MIA. Thankfully though, NZ is down but not out and has still built up a fair number of threads and posts over the last 4 years (try reading them all...) In particular, I like staying in touch with yourself and others in this way in public and in private and talking about the many things I've posted about, especially the more controversial topics, so the forum stays up, even though the monthly cost of the hosting isn't cheap and I get no ad revenue. I appreciate the threads that yourself, @AllThingsTech and @Geffers create to give our forum fresh content, so it's not me all the time.

Indeed it is, really is ironic. Why do things tend to work backwards?

I hope you find another creative outlet that gets you more success, or even create another video or two sometime, as that's definitely a big part of you.

I do wonder about exposure, I have a YouTube account, it is not subject specific, neither do I post on regular days but I upload videos on travel, walks, parks, trains, aircraft etc. Quite a few shorts. I usually try to put decent descriptions and use keywords, some get a few thousand views, others 15-20

Guess it is down to the algorithm.

Thank you, Retro. And you are right, there are some parallels with NZ. This may be a small forum, but to me it is the best forum. 🙂

The algorithm almost feels like a lottery at this point. It was much more common in old YouTube to get exposure. On this old channel that I used to run probably the video with the most traction I've made has got to be this one:

The video has been viewed 125K times, it has 1100 likes, and hundreds of comments. And it's a video I've made in like 10 minutes with Windows Movie maker (Windows XP) by just putting the Lenin Cat meme image over the Soviet anthem.

Since with the exception of about a dozen people no one gives a damn about my music, I should perhaps just return to creating silly memes again. That's what the masses seem to stumble over each other for: stupid random low effort shit.
