This one's new to me and gives me even less confidence of trading on eBay or any other private trade. In short, I don't sell anymore, not for years, and the few times that I buy off eBay. I make sure it's a seller with thousands of feedbacks and a near 100% score. Sorry to the honest smaller sellers as someone like me wouldn't help to get you off the ground, but I have to look after my interests first. Not gonna risk getting scammed to help you out.

This scam relies on fake courier tracking numbers to pretend that the item you bought but didn't get actually did get to you, denying you a refund, hence making them a fat profit and keeping the scammer's account clean and active. Of course, if eBay or another platform get continuous complaints like this about a seller, you'd hope that they'd sense something was off and terminate the account, or at least suspend it while it was being investigated, but I wouldn't rely on this too much to stay safe.

This video from Linus Tech Tips explains in detail how the scam works and uses a graphics card as an example, but the scam is applicable to any high value item.
