This must-watch classic 1970s air disaster movie is now on YouTube for everyone to watch for free. I love movies like this. 😁

Now, what year do you think it was released? Think carefully, then have a guess and click the button for the answer.

I've watched it, and you know what? I have thoroughly enjoyed it! There is something about 70s movies that really makes a spectacle out of even the most unlikely scenarios, and they sure knew how to stretch the tension back then.

I guessed the year of release wrong, by the way.

But boy, even the sight of 70s aesthetics I enjoy. The designs of things were just so straightforward, yet comfy. Flying in the 70s must have been a blast.

One thing that wasn't so straightforward was me getting to see this film. YouTube set the film to not being available in the country I reside in. Then I figured to put on a VPN to the United Kingdom. That worked well for about a minute, then it got disconnected. I guess that my VPN loicense expired. So I ended up just torrenting the damn file, that always works.

The cast was also a pleasant surprise to me, I recognized quite a few actors, who would later play in, for example, Seinfeld, and in The Naked Gun.

With that I make a little bridge to Leslie Nielsen, because about 6 years later his film "Airplane!" (yes, with exclamation mark) came out, which was a parody on air disasters movies, and I'm fairly positive that I was able to recognize some of the inspiration for it. I might sort out some screenshots some day, to show what I mean.

Great pick, @Retro !

Yes, the poor sound and vision recording quality of the time really gives it that 70s feel, doesn't it? There's also 100s of other cues to go with this that just makes it scream "70s!".

That geo restriction is pretty underhand in my opinion, not least as it's a 50 year old film, but especially as there's no warning in the description, or I'd have warned members to use their VPN. Shame it kept dropping out with yours, whatever the reason. Now, you do realise that every illegal download is a lost sale, don't you and really hammers billion dollar Big Media, even for something being given out for free? So yes, off to jail with you! Report yourself to the authorities at once! :ROFLMAO: Oh and remember that home taping is killing music. No, sorry, that one's just too lame.

Oh yes, Airplane! was definitely inspired by this series of films: I read about that somewhere when I watched it again for the 50th time recently. What a classic, no other movie can stand so many repeats, for me (not quite a literal 50, but perhaps 20 over the decades). I especially like the gag with the taxi driver waiting, lol. Oh and the bit where there's a line of people queuing up to slap and otherwise assault the hysterical woman on the plane. They'd never allow that in today's ridiculously PC and feminist world. Looking forward to those screenshots.

I haven't watched it yet, so I'll have more to say about it then.
