I felt rather envious when I first saw the headline of four wins, but then you see he's a cancer survivor, so I'm extra glad he's won it. Cancer is no joke.

How do you say “lottery winner” in western Canada? The answer is: David Serkin, the name of the cancer survivor from Alberta who won three separate lottery jackpots between August and May to accumulate about $2.5m in prize money.

According to officials, those lucky tickets marked the second, third and fourth times Serkin had won a lottery in his life, a feat that he had vanishingly small chances of pulling off and gained notice on corners of the internet dedicated to charming news stories.

“I know the odds are astronomical, [and] I don’t think it’ll happen again,” Serkin said in a press bulletin issued recently by the Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC). “But I still like buying tickets.”

Thanks for posting up happy news 🙂 !

I wonder whether he has some sort of technique to increase his odds at winning - I know of a couple of neurodivergent ppl who have amazing analytical capabilities when it comes to gambling, they study the practice thoroughly and they almost always win!

Dunno, you can't beat random odds. It's just pure luck. Think of all the billions of lottery bets over the decades which make an extremely unlikely win much more likely. Same principle with freak accidents and coincidences.

I’d love to win one let alone multiple! :P

I don’t believe I’d win and so I feel like I’d lose money with my payments for the lottery 😕 Of course they make money through the majority of the participants losing! Do you tend to take part in the lottery?

What can I say? I know one of them personally, and I know for a fact that he very diligently analyses probabilities, conducting thorough analysis!

I also know of someone who does something similar .

Note that they’re both ND. Autistic brains are interesting, unique and creative :P

Winning the jackpot in the lottery is (much) less likely than getting struck by lightning. Much so winning it four times. That's absolutely astronomical. I've been running some numbers, and the odds are (very roughly) 1 in 38 octillion (38,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000) to win the Canadian Lottery four times, which is unfathomably ridiculous.
This is exactly the kind of thing that makes me wonder whether or not we live in a simulation (which would be more probable than aforementioned odds) and that someone or something is just messing with us.

A friend told me that if one wins at gambling too many times, they’ll be banned from doing so again because the business becomes less lucrative, and the gambler will also be investigated for cheating.

Of course the lottery is a different scenario because I assume the prize would be shared and so wouldn’t necessarily affect profits as much (unless there’d constantly otherwise be no winner :P )
