“Belantamab mafodotin will be made available to around 1,500 patients a year with Multiple Myeloma - an incurable cancer of the bone marrow - following approval by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellent (NICE)”

While this cancer can’t be cured, this treatment combined with 2 other treatments has been found to be delay disease progression by 3 years compared to 1 year with daratumumab alongside the same other 2 treatments, and side effects are also managed.

The great news is that England will be the first to receive such treatment! This hopefully means more time to spend with their loved ones! Even better hopefully a cure will eventually be found!

This is ok news, since it only delays the inevitable, but still a lot better than nothing. Good find.

I'm sure improvements are going to be made in time as research continues.

There’s been lots of cancer advances lately with great potential for success.

For example, advances in treatments of head and neck cancer has shown promising results.
An immunotherapy drug given before and after surgery has doubled the length of time the patient will be cancer free - from 2.5 years to 5 years.

As we know breast and lung cancer is particular serious and the NHS is the first to make liquid biopsies available for breast and lung cancer.

The benefits are:
  • Reduced diagnosis time of approximately 16 days - this means that patients can typically begin treatment earlier. As we all know, when it comes to cancers not least of these forms, every moment counts!
  • Identifies genetic attributes and variations of cancer, enabling patients to access treatments tailored to their genetic profile
Here’s to some hope that more lives will be saved and that this research can be expanded to other forms of cancer, not least brain cancer which is particularly severe to say the least!
