Just had an unpleasant encounter. In the middle of the night, some guy just snooped around my house. Last year and the year before that this happened too, always around Christmas. Always people not from here, always speaking broken English or broken German with Eastern European accents (they don't speak or understand Danish). This tells me that there are groups of travelers going around, snooping around which houses are unattended, as many people stay with relatives during Christmas. Unlucky for them is that work aside I almost never leave the house.

This is the reason I've built barb wired fencing, it's paying off now. I could keep the man at distance and firmly made it clear that I'm watching whoever comes here. It also allowed me to catch his plates: BW16993

I however will not notify the police. Based on previous encounters, where some things even got stolen, my experience with the police is that they do not take this sort of thing seriously whatsoever. Absolutely fucking useless. If it comes to it where matters start to turn serious, I will take said matters into my own hands. Probably then all of a sudden they'll send like 6 cars to arrest the person defending the peace of his home, his cats, and himself, but heaven forbid to spend even five goddamn seconds on actual organized criminals.

Sounds like they're casing the joint as we say over here. So creepy and unpleasant. Good indeed that you're always there when not at work.

If possible, I suggest a good alarm system connected to the police to help should they break in. I know you say they don't take these things seriously, but a high end alarm might still deter them and perhaps the police might take it more seriously too. It will also send alerts to your phone, with video that's also recorded.

Stay safe @Hitcore! Sorry to hear you have people coming on to your property trespassing.

It is pretty annoying when you don't feel safe in your own home. We have been dealing with a neighbor that decided he was going to build something very large on the side of his house without a permit. Needlessly to stay, after numerous calls to our City code enforcement department, the neighbor has escalated his project into a Fear thy Neighbor realm with us. We have received several emails that were threatening and the last one was the final one. I talked to the city yesterday again. I'm calling our Sheriff tomorrow. If there's anything I've learned from watching crime shows is that law enforcement always asks, "why didn't you let us know this was going on", so I do call and have kept them informed. It gets very scary to deal with people that get into your space and do not respect boundaries. This same neighbor has walked in our back yard thinking it's okay. Not okay. Now our gates are locked from the inside.

@Retro , That is a good thing to consider. I will look into it. I do have some IP cams set up, but they're crap. Defo could use an upgrade against those who case my joint.

Thank you, @Tiffany .Your neighbor's behavior certainly isn't okay, and that takes away your peace of living there, especially when he threatens you by emails. In your case I think it is good that you keep the Sheriff informed. I hope that the matter gets resolved soon, keeping my fingers crossed for you. 🤞

Thank you @Hitcore. It's a beyond unbelievable experience that's been going on since November 7, when he broke ground with a huge excavator. Yeah, not okay, not safe, rarely check my mail. My husband has been checking mail etc. most of the time now. I have to look outside before I walk outside and make sure he's not driving by in his golf cart. :cautious:

Re the mailbox, when I see letters or leaflets poking out of my neighbours letterboxes, I always push them through for this very reason. Costs me nothing and I might just have saved them being burgled.

That is a very neighborly gesture, @Retro.

I'm gonna watch Home Alone this Christmas, to see if I can get some inspiration regarding home security.
