The tragic destruction of the Hindenburg took place in 1937 and was captured on movie film, few people have not seen the tragic footage.

Seven years prior in 1930 the UK suffered a similar disaster, the R101 Airship met its fate in the dead of night over farmland in France, foul weather and only witnessed by locals, no movie film, no images apart from the aftermath. Surprisingly six persons survived.

A short twelve minute documentary on the Airship is worth a watch.

Those airships were a menace. Even filled with helium, they're not the safest things around.
