The effects are quite complex and can be beneficial. In short, it's ok to drink it, but in moderation and not too late in the day if you wanna actually be able to sleep.

One thing this article doesn't explain, is that caffeine in very high concentrations is actually toxic, so don't go mad with it, or you could get more than a headache and the jitters.

Good article, thank you! I avoid caffeine, just completely intolerant to it. There can be a lot of carcinogens in coffee too and some say mixed benefits. I've seen both arguments. If I was to drink coffee I'd look for coffee that's organic and the company is concerned with keeping the coffee free of mold. Tea also has it's issues too, but I still believe tea is the lesser evil than coffee.
