How the portal illusion works

You look straight at it and can swear it's doing one thing when it's actually doing another. The coolest bit is how it can cause things to apparently appear from nothing and disappear into nothing. Even after seeing it explained and also physically revealed, I still can't see it for what it truly is, the illusion is that strong. Fascinating.
