Just one little file or even a folder called OSDATA will do the trick and is reversible. ThioJoe explains all in his usual clear style.

Warning: do not do this on your daily use Windows installation. If you wanna try it, do it in a VM, or a separate installation.

Oh yeah, I've had it where the mouse pointer stops moving while moving the mouse and that's it, complete lockup, requiring the reset button or power cycle to get out of it. Comes out of the blue with perfect operation for hours beforehand. When it locks up this hard, it's usually failing hardware in some way, bad RAM connection etc.

The 2700K based PC I had before my current one at one point would run flawlessly when being pushed hard while running a game, but had a tendency to BSOD for no reason when on the desktop, even when not touching it. Turned out to be a failing RAM stick after a decade. Removing it fixed it. Bought another one and was back to its old self, minus the crashes.

It was a nightmare to troubleshoot due to its infrequency, too. Only when this intermittency started getting noticeably worse could I pin it down. Previously, it could run for weeks on end with no issues, then bam! Just once each time, too.

I've seen way too many BSOD in my life to do this for fun. 🙈
Oh, c'mon, what's one more between friends?! 😛 :ROFLMAO:
