Good article, and profoundly reminds me to stop burning the candle at both ends by keeping up with being physically active, but lacking in the sleep department.

How do you figure that out? Society is everybody, the same people who allegedly won't be getting the sleep...

Longer labor Hours, Travel Times, Other distractions such as phones, it does affect sleep.

While these things do affect sleep, where's the conspiracy? You said "society" wants us to get less - society is everyone, right? So, according to your logic, this is society conspiring against itself and that doesn't make sense.
