I've been following the news and hysteria about the government's budget for weeks now about how awful it was going to be, would make them lose the next election (that's a few years away yet) and usher in the abominable Reform etc. However, I was skeptical and that skepticism proved to be right.
Here's some articles covering it in fine detail. Now, I'm hardly an expert on these things, but I saw Reeves's presentation today, where it didn't seem so bad to me. There's also a tax calculator below that I did and you know what? I'll be worse off to the tune of a mere £20-25 per year. This is an amount that's so small, I wouldn't even notice it. Yet, this budget that puts bigger taxes on the wealthy who can afford it, will significantly help things like the NHS, disabled, or otherwise disadvantaged in our society among other things and that's something that I'm happy to pay a little more for. Especially the NHS as we all need it at some point in our lives, so you want it to be as strong and healthy as possible, right?
Finally, let's not forget the damage that this tory brexit continues to do to this country, sucking the wealth and efficiency out of it. If we'd gotten back into the EU by now, this budget would have been significantly better, but alas that remains a dream for the foreseable future.
