If you've never tried Linux you can give it a test drive without worrying about any installation.
Open your favourite browser and go to https://distrosea.com - if you sign in with your Google ID (not sure why this is the only option at the moment) you will have an internet connection when you fire up a test system.
There are loads to choose from but I would suggest either of these two;
Ubuntu - use just Ubuntu, no following descriptions, then select 22:04
Debian 12.0.0 Xfce
These are two very popular Linux distributions which any Windows or Mac user should be able to figure out.
Firefox is their popular Browser(available on Windows, Mac and Linux plus phones)
Libre Office opens all Microsoft documents, also available on Windows and Mac
VLC media player, not sure how well that will work via a browser but again, this is available on Windows, Mac and phones.
