As if drinks in pubs weren't expensive enough, a London pub has now introduced an "optional" service charge. I'll bet this practice spreads like wildfire.

Drinkers at a London pub have been hit with an automatic 4pc service charge when ordering at the bar.

The “optional” charge is applied to food and drink at the Well and Boot in Waterloo station, and adds 30p to the price of a pint of beer or cider.

The venue, which is owned by Glendola Leisure, displays the additional charge on a sign by the bar which states: “100pc of all tips go to our staff”.

I wouldn't mind so much if the drinks weren't ridiculously priced in the first place. Anyway as it's optional, you can opt out.

This 'tip' business is spreading from US. Viewed some tech online few months back, on ordering a 'tip' was suggested at check out, it was optional but I cancelled the order entirely.
