Oh, I like it! Great suggestion, this is definitely a contender. I've now registered it before it disappears. I've also registered discussiondock.net as a protection domain.
I kind of like it myself... and almost registered it shortly after mentioning it, but didn't when I realized I am not that big into general discussion areas. I like to target niche areas that I have some expertise in.

I can see tons of possibilities on styling and logo for a site under that name. In fact, I can see where it could be expanded into a side-niche of travel related talk/articles.

Added a few more into there since I had 20 free AI term uses.
Going to save some of the other for my use.

That might be an issue. In the old days, the term nerd was offensive. But I don't think it carries the weight that it used to now.
I gladly tell folks that I'm a computer nerd/geek. Just look at Best Buy and their use of the name Geek Squad. That's not considered offensive. And geek was more offensive than nerd. ;)
I've always felt that geek fits me better than nerd. Hey, everyone's different.

Some will be human spammers prepping accounts for later. Due to sign up fields I use I can usually weed those out fairly quickly and I place them manually in a special group that places all their posts into moderation in case they come back later and post spam. If they come back later and are posting on topic for the niche I'll remove them from that moderated group. If they post spam, they get placed in another group that they can't post and is read only. That way the account information (email/IP) is kept for future use.
Oh yes, I've got measures to counter such potential spammers too, of course. Can't really say much about it in public for obvious reasons.

Hobbies cost money. I look at it as an extension of my astrophotography hobby as it gives me a place I'm comfortable with generating content on without having to worry about offending the owner/admin of another site.
Yup, they can be expensive alright. Saw a documentary on model train enthusiasts a while back and they can spend eye watering amounts on their hobby. Those layouts look great, though. I like trains too and have some interest in them. I had them as a kid - Z gauge - so many moons ago now, but they're not my hobby as I'm so into computers. They could well be in another life though.

This is one of the biggest reasons why I started nerdzone, as I love internet forums, but couldn't stand the bullying and heavyhandedness of mods and admins on other sites. This was especially so when trolls would harrass me.

I'm quite able to look after myself and know how to put them down in just the right way (offensive, disdain, contempt, killer retorts etc) that it takes all the profit out of it for them and it's effective at shutting them up, but then the fucking mods usually stepped in to hit me for "breaking their forum rules". They would at times censor my posts and sanction me, while leaving the troll's posts up, as if they hadn't broken their precious rules in the first place! That was incredibly infuriating and really ruined the forum experience. Some troll tries that on here and it's a different story. ;) Thankfully, I've only ever had a small handful of them on here and they didn't last long.

The other VPS's that I am hosting sites on are only around $12 a month out of pocket costs, and I quit drinking coffee from the boutiques so that amounts to about 1 large Breve a month and I easily drank 12-15 of those.
You junkie you! The Retro Approvez.

A couple of down and dirty logos (credit to AI logo generator)
Thanks, I'll be looking into this at some point, but at first I'll create one that looks like the NZ logo of the new domain, namely DiscussionDock so that it goes with the current blue and yellow Ukraine theme. I'll then see about getting a custom theme created from someone like Pixel Exit, or perhaps AI. It doesn't have to be too fancy and I need to experiment to get just the right look.

Going to save some of the other for my use.
I'm terribly curious, so if you're ok to share them in private, I'd be very grateful. :) No biggie if not.

Everyone, what do you think of discussiondock.com?

The way it looks at the moment is that this is the hot favourite for my replacement domain. It's catchy, doesn't have "forum" or "forums" in it and can naturally be abbreviated to dd or DD.

This is currently my hot favourite for the rebrand.

Double D's can be either a backache or fun, depending on which side of the aisle you are on.:sneaky:

Don't discount them out of hand. And don't forget, you can, for every style, have a different logo show up. These have no editorial license done to them, simply plugging what is in this thread in as the logo. Doing some work (like changing backgrounds to transparency) can also make a big difference.

I kind of like that last one myself. With some work it could have great potential.

Indeed, one of these could look good, especially that last one, perhaps. I'm just saying that to get some logo done as I can't change the domain without a matching logo, I could just have it in the same style as now to start with as it will be easy to do, to prevent the rebrand from potentially getting hung up on this. As I'm doing this purely as a hobby and the site doesn't generate money, it doesn't matter if it's not all done and dusted in one go.

For that logo, you could probably use some CSS and make it more an oval shape. In fact, thinking about it that might look pretty good.
If you want the original image I downloaded (1472x862 JPG image) let me know and I can put it out on one of the VPS's and give you a link to pull the full size one in. XF will probably optimize it into WebP, and that's not the best thing to do to start editing a logo from.
Or I could just stick it in a ZIP archive and attach it to a post. Either way.

I really like that bottom one on the right the more I look at it. And it can work with both light and dark styles.

Everyone: just to clarify, I'm not going to do the rebrand immediately, although it's still gonna happen when I get round to it. The one thing that would stop it is a significant uptick in activity and / or registrations with the current branding, which is highly unlikely.

Hey people, for giggles, I've just registered rtc32.com which has long been on my list of unregistered domains. It's so short and sweet on a precious dotcom, how could I resist? :) I don't have any particular use for it, but I like it because RTC stands for realtime clock in techy circles and 32 is a power of two, since the crystals that drive them typically resonate at a power of two frequency, although not such a low value. I've registered quite a few domains since I first started years ago, but none have had numbers in them up till now. Note that rtc.com has long been taken since 1994 (but of course) or I'd have had that.

It doesn't make for a compelling forum name, hence why I didn't suggest it, but maybe one day I'll put a website on it, who knows. Might end up using it as some sort of scratchpad, maybe.

@Astro What have you got any suggestions for its use?

This is the domain that I was alluding to the other day in this thread.

RTC can stand for real time communications, but what throws a monkey wrench into that is the use of the numbers.
Just a few things that RTC32 turns up on a search:

Kingbright LED holder, spacer, or mounting hardware
32-gallon trash can by Berlin Gardens
Raritan RTC-32V flush timer

I really can't think of anything that would be a good association for a website honestly.

I almost purchased drinkmore.beer the other night... then realized I really don't like beer so couldn't provide much activity for that niche.
