I thought it was about time I talked about the PICO-8 because we hadn't talked about it before...

So, the PICO-8 isn't a physical console, but it's a virtual one. It's essentially designed as a fantasy console, with a screen resolution of 128x128, some in-built sprite magic, some sound/music magic and a relatively easy-to-get-going environment, but that functions in many ways as a real console: you don't get oodles of space, you build everything into a 'cartridge', insert the cartridge and go, like a console of old. The console essentially mimics the old NES controller (so, D-pad + 2 main buttons like the A/B buttons but here labelled X/O, plus a start button)

I even had a go a bit back - https://www.lexaloffle.com/bbs/?tid=47533 - to see if I could fit full size card graphics into the (limited) video space in the PICO-8, and as you can see, I managed it. I'd have done more things with it but the spring was a point when my life got very very complicated, so I put it aside and haven't been back beyond 'I had a couple of ideas but I couldn't make them fit in the space'
