The barrier is the snow that was piled up across the railroad lines. That is the only reason you would get a sudden burst of snow as it reached the roadway.Sorry AW, I can't see this barrier you refer to. I can see that there are two barriers going across the road as you'd expect and the railway line seems to cross the road at quite an angle, but that's it.
If they were using a snow plow to clear the road, would happen automatically. You can tell by looking at the sides of the road and the amount of snow that is everywhere and the roads are pretty clear a plow has been used and not somebody doing it by hand that could throw it around that point.So you reckon that someone piled the snow up there deliberately? Very irresponsible if true. It certainly could derail the train.
Watch some videos of when they impact an 18 wheeler. When you have a few tons of mass moving at 30+ MPH it is rather impressive when it hits something.That was amazing seeing the power in that train!
