The BBC can't compete with YouTube, so why not just use underhand tactics to win?

More people are watching more independent creators on YouTube than the BBC nowadays - I'm one of them - so the BBC are pressuring OFCOM to force YouTube to promote BBC content in YouTube search results ahead of those independent creators. If that sounds fundamentally unfair and dystopian, it is. This video by Evan Edinger explains it all in detail in his usual irreverent style.

Legacy media is panicking. They see their market share shrinking due to the rise of content creators on platforms like YouTube and TikTok. So in an effort to reclaim some of that, they're spamming the algorithms. But they will not even nearly as succesful as they hope to be. Younger generations simply do not relate to legacy media channels, even if they appear in their YouTube recommendations. The result is that eventually the BBC will panic even more and then come up with some other draconian plan.

All of those actions are driven by panic, and I think it's hilarious. Let's not forget that the BBC has a serious image problem, as throughout the years some higher-ups and some well-known faces are/were involved in some scandals, usually in relation to some weird rapey sexual stuff. And I imagine that especially Brits are tired of the BBC as many of them aren't even really watching anymore, while still having to pay for a mandatory (!) loicense.
