Everyone using Apple Pay on their iPhone should see this video and be aware of a nasty security flaw that could allow money to be stolen from your locked iPhone if you have a Visa card in it. The good news is that to beat it, just turn off transit mode, but it will make going through toll booths less convenient.
This video demos the exploit and explains exactly why it works. The flaw has been there since 2021, yet Apple and Visa don't fix it as it's due to a convenience feature for paying at toll booths on the underground and there are "protections in place". I don't agree with this and always figured that Apple Pay is less secure than advertised and is why I continue to not use it. After all, if they've left this flaw in and not disclosed it, what other flaws haven't they told us about? This is about trust and Apple just undermined it.
Here's the point in the video featuring Apple's statement on this issue and their and Visa's excuse for not fixing it due to those "protections". Does it reassure you? Doesn't reassure me.
