@Retro That's a unique process to engage the public in naming storms. That is a new factoid for me about the UK weather, cool!

@Mars Your rain sounds rather tropical in nature by the way rain can come in a few minutes, be gone and come back in a downpour all within a short time period. That does makes sense though, since you are right there at the Atlantic ocean and sometime subject the gales and some tropical weather when a storm works it's way back over to the UK from the US coastal area.

We are feeling autumn too, which is a little weird for September. It's usually very hot in September with some relief in the temps, but this September is unusually mild and in the 80'sF.

Your park experience sounds nice. More people should get out and away from their desk and keyboard and enjoy the world around them which includes the little things like birds, squirrels and rabbits and watching them in their world.

@Tiffany, never thought about that temperamental rain as being tropical, until you mentioned it.
It happened again couple days ago, weather forecast was grim, so golf was called off and I was pleased because got a lift to the dentist.
When finished there, did some shopping in the High Street: not a drop of rain, all clear and bright. Rained again in the afternoon though.
But now I know: tropical.
Yeah, the birdies in the park, you know, however much you give them, it all disappears in 2 minutes flat. Some call pigeons 'vermin', call squirrels 'vermin' I mean, just look at that bushy tail, how can you call that 'vermin'.
In comparison to our complicated and two faced world, the natural world is simple and predictable.

Indeed Mars, no animal is ever vermin, it might simply be in the wrong place. For example, if I see rats in the street, I don't freak out. I simply watch them run past.

@Mars Sorry you had to call off your golf game because of the weather but it sounds like you were meant to go to the dentist that day and then enjoy seeing some cute animals in the park.

In the southern states and Mexico, there's a fair amount of "tropical" weather during the late summer since there's is so much moisture coming from the Gulf of Mexico. If you're in Mexico, you usually wake about to spotty showers in the morning and then some clearing unless there's some disturbance affecting the weather that day. The UK is unique in the way it's surrounded by ocean and certainly feels tropical in nature with your rain showers at times.

I took a picture of a squirrel this morning on top of my fence. Animals are peaceful to watch... vermin no, agree @Retro.

@Tiffany oh no, it was not me had to call off the golf, oh no, golf is hubby's game, and the lads came to a decision to call it off because of the weather forecast, which then turned out to be wrong, the sun shone, no rain, you know the drill: Tropical.
Anyway, worked ok for me, because got him to give me a lift to the dentist.

Chilly again this morning, soon warms up, 'him' off to golf, me off to the park, pigeons fed, and all is fine with the world (I wish....)🙃

That squirrel you took a photo of, was it a grey squirrel? if it was, it is the same we have here, non-native. The native squirrel is the red one with the pointy tufted ears. Nowhere around these parts though. Mainly in the North and on islands, where it is lucky to have escaped the non native Grey, which sadly carries a virus deadly to the reds.
They all deserve their place under the sun, and yes, it is lovely to watch their little antics.

@AllThingsTech Interesting to learn that your rain is more in the Summer and Autumn compared to the rest of the year. I hope your winter isn't too cold this year.

@Mars Oh, cool on the clarification.. sounds like it all worked out nicely. I'm glad to hear you world is fine with some cooler weather and happy pigeons with full tummies. We have the brown squirrels. I would love seeing a gray squirrel though or a red squirrel with "pointy tufted ears". Your squirrels sound really high drama/fancy. Sad to learn the gray squirrels carry a virus that are deadly to the red squirrels.

I for one am absolutely thrilled that it has started to rain every day where I live!
  • It cools off so I'm not sweating like a pig when things get physical at work.
  • 'Friends' feel far less the urge to involve me in their mindless binge drinking habits or stupid overpriced festivals.
  • A forebode of autumn, my favorite season, if only because of the colors. 🍁🍂
  • It's getting darker. I love the dark. 🦇
  • With rain comes nice smells. Petrichor, look it up.

@Hitcore I'm a fan of rain and I don't live in the right state that gets much rain on the average, however this past summer has been unusual as we still have green grass, which I've never seen during the summer months. It's usually fried by mid-July.

@Retro I hope your high winds don't cause too much damage and everyone is okay and there isn't much flooding from the rain you've had.

@live627 Creosote is an interesting plant native to your area. Thanks for the link. I enjoyed reading about its origin and herbal use.

My weather is just hot. We've had a dry September, but it looks like in a week or so, maybe we will have a little rain and some lower temperatures.

Atlantic Hurricane season is insignificant so far, which is great for all of those that have really had difficult hurricane seasons the past few years. I just hope the season isn't backloaded and there will be a lot of concentrated turbulence in the Atlantic for end of September and October.

You know what they say: the grass of the neighbors is always greener. Except for this year. This year your grass is pretty green!

Rain is quite common in Denmark, though. I live on just about the same longitude as where Edinburgh is. Ask any Brit here how rainy Scotland is. 😁

It seems that there was a little bit of wind in the port of Rotterdam.
