We have Amy Light here. Or Diet Amy, if you're American. Lots of rain, and quite windy, but nothing extreme. I guess that my area is on the outskirts of the storm.

I'm kinda lucky, though. Tons of rain today and tomorrow, but most of it should by cleared up by Monday. Still, I'll pack my rain suit for my scooter rides to work, just to be sure.

I hope storm Amy doesn't affect you all much, no damage and everything is okay. This is a powerful storm with lots of wind and rain. I took a look at the radar and the storm covered a huge amount of territory from the far north of the UK into Scotland and southern areas too. I'm glad to see some of you got "Amy Light" as @Hitcore mentioned.

XF's link unfurling sucks. (I have written one so I know that it's complicated to make one that works well)

EDIT: Just tested it with that link. It works

@live627 I hope all of your rain doesn't create flooding and everyone is good. Could you please send some rain my way?🌦️ We haven't had rain for about two months now.

Forecasting technology is improving:

I think your new technology is pretty cool:
The Met Office Space Weather Operations Centre will be able to forecast how space weather will impact the thermosphere, which stretches from around 50 to 400 miles above Earth’s surface. It will also be able to predict impact in the ionosphere, through which radio and GPS signals travel.

I'm so worried about the Jamaican people's safety with Hurricane Melissa coming through as a high end Cat 5 storm. This reminds me of Hurricane Katrina that hit Louisiana years ago, however, this will be 100 times worse after looking at a video this morning that showed where the eyewall will hit southern Jamaica. This country is a very poor country, with very little good infrastructure on it's best days. The other countries in the path of this storm are also threatened and neither of them except for the Dominican Republic have good infrastructure to withstand the immense power of this storm.

Thanks @Retro for taking the time to post this good link, as these people will need the world to come together to help them recover.

Hurricane Melissa has been very destructive through Jamaica and Cuba and on its way to the Bahamas and Bermuda. The pictures of the destruction in Jamaica will bring you to tears.

@Retro That's a lot of rain and wind coming in with your storm Claudia. I hope there's not too much flooding. Y'all stay safe and dry!

We are on month three with warm weather and scant rain. Next week, we will finally have some changes with cooler temps that make it feel like fall is here. We've lost very little leaves off of our trees this fall too, which is weird. I predict we will have one severe cold snap with snow and/or ice in January and for six weeks in late December and January be unusually cold. Let's see if my prediction is right lol.

-7c on the way so wrap up warm and make sure your heating works.

Oh crap... those pics don't look too nice. Poor Welshmen. And poor sheep.

Meanwhile out here in mainland Denmark it's also kinda cold (night temps of -5c) but it is anything but stormy. I live in what's normally one of the windiest parts of the country but this weekend it has been virtually windstill. And not particularly cloudy, so we've even got a decent amount of sun today. All and all it's kinda wintery, but in a good way.

Going back to @Retro times where global warming wasn’t a thing :P

As early as 2006 I saw a homeless guy in my hometown with a cardboard sign that said "Meer globale opwarming alstublieft" ("more global warming please"). I thought that was pretty funny, and I took the effort to shop at a nearby clothing store and got him a hoody.

That flooding video in Wales is unbelievable. 😲 So sorry for those shops and businesses inundated with all of that flooding water!! I hope everyone stays safe and okay.

So nice of you @Hitcore for buying that homeless man a hoodie! 😇

@Hitcore you're a legend for doing that. I've done something similar a few times now when I see a homeless person hanging around a small supermarket or petrol station (it's always been a man so far). I'll buy them a big bottle of water, couple of litres, plus a few sandwiches and hand it to them, gratis. They're usually surprised and pretty grateful for it, too. Note that I have to be confident enough that they really are homeless though and with some of them, there's no denying the misery on their faces, so they get my little bit of help. It might cost me a tenner or so to buy these things on top of what I went to get for myself, but it's money well spent and it feels good to have done something to help.

I've noticed that the homeless tend to be treated as some sort of troublemakers by society at large which didn't seem right to me, so I looked into it a few years ago. I can tell you that it absolutely isn't their fault in the great majority of cases. It can just take someone doing ok, but without much in savings plus a mortgage, to lose their job and be unable to get another one to lose their home and hence end up homeless. There's lots of other reasons too like mental illness, broken relationships and more that can cause homelessness. People in these situations deserve our sympathy and help. If animals in dire straits deserve our help, then why not people in similar circumstances?
