To those of us who watch football on TV - now in glorous 4K HDR on Sky - it feels like it's always been on TV, but of course it hasn't. There actually was a start date: 16 September 1936 by the BBC although it's debatable how many people actually watched it due to how new and expensive TV was back then and the smaller overall population of the UK.

1936 is very impressive. We take it for granted today but back then it must have been mindblowing for the few people who were rich enough to own a television set.

English football has a ton of history, with BBC and some other networks capturing both the highlights, but unfortunately also some disasters, such as the Hillsborough disaster, and the Bradford Stadium fire.

My personal favorite moment in English football is the video below, and I'm glad it was caught on camera. This is truly the definition of an apotheosis:
