What is the next level for the Internet?

How can the Internet be changed to make it better?

Not the Metaverse, that's for sure.

Personally though, I'd like to see a reduction in the amount of commercialisation and corporatisation on the internet. I'd like to see less ads, less tracking, more hobbyists. More how the internet was when I were younger *old man vibe intensifies*, something about having an onion on my belt because that was the fashion at the time...

What a gloriously open ended question!

Well, universal gigabit access for a start with much greater coverage. This will help to bring in new services that aren't possible now and may not even have been imagined. The speed continues to get ramped up past that over time, too.

Further out, perhaps neural links to the internet. Effectively, the smartphone will be in your head with functionality that's sci-fi right now. I can see this being very expensive and controversial though.

I can just imagine the Apple Faithful going into the Apple store for their neural implant.

A blissful, slightly zombified smile appears on their faces as it goes in, which remains there. They then walk out in a slow, measured way (still with smile) their bank accounts suitably drained and now fully controlled by their Apple Overlord, their one mission to get everyone else implanted too. Now, just who wouldn't want that?!

Just imagine how dated and quaint today's smartphones will look compared to that.

Oh, and of course, everyone on the planet to sign up to NerdZone and start posting fervently! 😛 Might put a little strain on the infrastructure... 😉

Nice try, Microsoft.

;) I said earlier I think it'll be more human and forumed.
More like the old web. At least I believe with the rapidly humanising news re silicon valley.

I'm looking for modernizing the classic vibe myself, integrating new tech that's based on the tried and true but expanding on the premise with creative ingenuity and removing all of the noise as mentioned above....pop-ups and advertising are truly annoying these days. Forum's rock by their nature, and what makes them good are the people. You can dress forums up however you want, but the people and the niche is what makes a forum great or fail.

Ummm....that would not only be a "no" but a "hellz to the no" on a brain implant....Neuralink hasn't convinced me yet that it's safe. I think the technology has come a long way to help people that are disabled giving them some needed independence on the ability to move, but to insert a chip in my brain to enhance my brain? Naw, not yet. I'd have to see years of successful research and even that research I don't like because "they" use animals and too many of them have perished during the research. I'll wait. ;)

+1 on that, Tiffs. Especially for the terrible sacrifices that are foisted on the animals.
