Blueish-yellow: the forbidden colour

Another great video from this fascinating channel, The Action Lab, where the presenter demonstrates physical phenomena with home experiments.

While you can't actually create a genuine blueish-yellow, it's possible to trick your brain into seeing it, sort of. I've done it and it looks really weird and interesting. It seems obvious to me now, yet impossible to explain. I'll let the video explain the details and let us know in the comments if you've managed to acheve it.

Has anyone managed to try the bluish-yellow trick? It's fascinating and I can still remember how it looks.

Basically, you do it, by only seeing blue with one eye and yellow with the other, then crossing your eyes so that the images overlap. In fact, you don't want a full overlap, so you get the blue > bluish-yellow > yellow picture and can compare. You'll need to use a piece of card to block the other picture to the other eye. The video explains it all.
