omg this is ludicrous, a waiting list well over the average human lifetime shouldn't exist as it's impossible to wait that long. Surely, it should cut off well before that at 10-15 years maybe and the people more honestly told that they'll never be given a home?

Looks like fixing this is gonna take a lot of things coming together, which I can't see happening. Things like building more social homes and ending right to buy which makes the problem so much worse. What also makes the problem so much worse are the huge amount of illegals entering the country every year, so better immigration controls, with illegals* going to the bottom of the list automatically, told they'll never actually qualify, due to, you know, entering the country illegally. Oops, that last point sounds a bit right wing doesn't it? However, not all right wing ideology is bad and of course, how this is all going to be funded is a bit of a question too...

The wait for family-size social housing has risen to more than 100 years in parts of England, which charities have condemned as “ludicrous” and a “national scandal”.

Analysis from the National Housing Federation (NHF), Crisis and Shelter found that in 32 local authority areas across England, the wait for a home with at least three bedrooms was longer than 18 years – the duration of an entire childhood.

The worst three councils, all of which are in London, have waiting lists exceeding 100 years, while nine local authorities have waiting lists of more than 50 years.

*Sorry, "undocumented migrants" to be politically correct. Sure.
