What should us animal lovers feed robins in the winter? This article explains what one should and shouldn't feed them.

Robin.webp
A round robin.

While the blistering, icy cold is a great excuse to hunker down and hibernate inside with a cosy blanket, a fire, and a cup of steaming hot tea, for our friends in the garden, cooler temperatures bring a plethora of challenges - especially when it comes to finding food. Frozen ground, wet rain and other harsh weather conditions make it harder than ever for robins to source anything of sustenance during the winter months. As we fill our houses with the spirit of Christmas, we can do a little that would mean a lot to robins by giving them a helping hand in our gardens.

oh what a lovely article about the sweet robin. We always have a resident robin in the garden, so by now I have learned to recognise his call.
Robin is intelligent and quick to learn; he has to, as he is a tiny little loner, yet a fearsome guardian of his territory. Brave little treasure.

Up to now I was only lucky with one robin, a few years ago, who would come to my call and eat from my hand. This was divine.
The current resident is also brave, but he sure keeps his distance. He sits on the wall and tilts his little head to check where his pink little tidbits land, as I throw them to him, one by one.
Good advice about feeding, except that the author seems to ignore the fact that it is not advisable to leave bird food on the ground. This may attract unwanted customers, in the shape of mice and rats. Food on the ground is a no-no.
As the author rightly pointed out, always keep the bird bath going, even in winter. I make sure the frozen water is broken up so the birdies can preen and drink.
