While it can't be 100% certain, this video gives it a good go, quoting from unnamed "experts" and it's very different to how we perceive them.

Check out the cute Russian Blue sitting in the box at the start of the video.

😅

But indeed, it is interesting to think about this. I feel that what's said in the video gets it mostly right.
Cats can see that we are different, physically. Yet they do see us as kind-of-family, if they are close to us.

I am pretty sure that only one of my cats sees me as a parent figure. Funny enough this is the mom cat who does that. Her young kitties don't treat me the same way she does. They do like me, but I feel that it is more transactional. The mom cat however absolutely loves me and is very close to me. She was alone and homeless when I picked her up, so I guess that goes a long way. The young kitties think I'm kind and fun, but they really have their own mommy, and in the end I'm a giant upright walking food dispenser to them. 😹

the cute Russian Blue

A long time ago, 2009, I had a Russian Blue, together with my girlfriend of the time. The sad thing about girlfriends with cats is that when the relationship ends, I don't get to see the cats anymore. I never miss my exes, but I always miss the cats! 😿

Here she is, chilling in my hobby room. Such a sweet pretty kitty. She was very clever too.

I made a little edit. ;)

Love that Russian Blue, looks so blissed out.
