It has been a while. There are reasons. In fact, the subject of this video is that very reason. I will tell all about it at a later point. For now: get yourself ready because this video is going in premiere! Much like @petermarkley did two days ago with his most recent video, I figured: why the heck not, let's see how this works out. It's a first for me, so hopefully it won't be bumpy. But as it looks like now, the premiere function on YouTube does its thing, and it is set on the following time, depending on where you live:

  • 8:00 PM (20:00) Central Europe
  • 7:00 PM (19:00) United Kingdom
  • 2:00 PM (14:00) US East Coast
In other words, the premiere will be roughly 5 hours from now. I invite you all to watch at that time, and perhaps have a chat. I will answer any questions you may have. :)

For now I can say: this video is something that I really needed to get out of my system. It's gritty and dark. But there is light.

Yeah, I like that. It's hardcore, 80s sounding, instrumental and huge bass with a great video to go with it about us all just being wage slaves.

Thanks, Retro!

It was interesting to create anime with the Hailuo I mentioned in the other thread. I always enjoy trying new stuff, to make my videos diverse. And the beefy 80s electronic music fits!
Right now I'm too cooked to write a proper article, but I want to go deeper on why and how I came up with all this.

The premiere gizmo was nice to try, but next time I'll just upload and publish directly again. A premiere would work better if I get more subscribers and viewers in the future. Though it was quite cozy with you and Peter!

I'll get some rest, and I'll get back here tomorrow. Again, thank you! :)

Nice work, @Hitcore. I enjoyed your video and the music was in sync with the activity too. I went to YouTube and "liked it". Also nice happy ending. 🌷🌳🐦

So here are the final words I have to say about it:

Humanoid Work Droid captures that hollow, mechanical feeling, like you're moving, functioning, doing what’s expected, but your soul is offline. This corporate world strips people of identity, of autonomy, of humanness.

When life forces you into a loop of obligation with little room for authentic joy or rest, it’s no wonder motivation dries up. I'm not lazy or broken. Just burned out and running on fumes. I took everything I was carrying: the exhaustion, the frustration, the dehumanization. And I transformed it into something expressive.

This wasn’t just a project: this was my release. A reclaiming of my voice, my identity, my creativity.
I'm not a work droid, and never was. But it’s easy to forget who you are when the system tries to make you into something you’re not. Now I'm remembering.

Alas so many places are like that. Occasionally one works for an employer that cares a bit more about their employees welfare and happiness, but they're rare. They normally just care about profit.

Creativity is so often born out of adversity, your video being a great example and a cracking tune.

You are absolutely right, Retro, and I commend you for seeing that. And boy do I have a lot of adversity in my system. It can have the effect of both producing creative things, as well as getting stuck in my head.

Thank you.

In other news: I'm working on a new video. Something a bit humorous this time again. πŸ™‚
It's too early to call an exact day, so I'm just gonna say: somewhere this week.

Thank you, @Tiffany , that means a lot.

And yes, it's a pretty rough place. It's called Hoogvliet, a purpose-built industrial satellite city of Rotterdam.
Heavily expanded in the 50s and 60s in commieblock-type buildings to house the tens of thousands of workers of Shell and other oil giants. It's like 20 miles of petrochemical plants. Essential for the local economy, but not nice to live directly next to. It stank. Oh God it freaking stank, especially with the wind towards us.

In 1968 there was an explosion at one of the plants so big, that the air pressure blew out just about every window in Hoogvliet. So that's a looming danger. And to this day the night sky gets illuminated orange/red, they do a lot of flaring to burn off excess gases from the refining process.

Hoogvliet also has many other problems, mostly crime related, and diverse demographics that don't always get along so well. In the 80s and 90s, when I grew up there, there was also a heroin epidemic which lasted for decades. Hoogvliet's an intense place.

There have been initiatives to add some more green in the area, though, and much of the brutalistic architecture has been replaced with more appealing homes, so at least it looks a bit better these days. (still a sucky place as far as I am concerned)
