I used to play this classic from 1982 over and over again at the time, so much so, that I'd wear out the cassettes and had to record it again. No CD singles then and the format was really expensive since it was launched this year in the UK.
It was pretty popular on the radio too and got on a lot ofpayola lists playlists, which I enjoyed. I especially like the hi-hat (symbols) on it and the way it follows the tune, that really made it. Not many songs are constructed this way and the few that are usually sound pretty good.
Just discovered this mini gem of a cover from 2006 in my Googlings tonight. Sounds kinda funny, especially her voice, but it's not bad and good enough for repeat play. Alas the symbols have been replaced by shakers, but still sounds alright.
Interestingly, her voice sounds somewhat similar to Dolly Parton's.
Looks like Tanja Thomas only ever made one album and then disappeared. A "one album wonder"? Here it is on YouTube.
