The barbaric practice of fur farming has been rightly banned for the last 25 years, but importing is still allowed for some reason. Now, there's a bill wending its way through parliament to ban this too. Next reading on 4th July. A ban can't come soon enough.
This is the kind of thing that I want from the Labour government, they're finally doing something right. The tories would have never proposed such a bill and it was Labour that introduced the initial ban in 2000.
The fur trade has predictably gotten its knickers in a twist over this, see below.
The fur trade is also bleating that it could cost thousands of skilled jobs. Good. People are not allowed to keep their ill-gotten gains from crime no matter the cost to them and this is no different. Get a proper job.
Finally, this is a pro animal forum, so no pro fur comments, or justifications for why it should continue. It's right there in the Forum Rules, section 5.2. Thankyou.

Big respect to Ruth Jones, thankyou so much. While fur farming has been banned in Wales and England since 2000, many types of fur are still legally imported and sold.
Ruth Jones, Labour MP for Newport West and Islwyn, has introduced a Private Members' Bill to Parliament that would prohibit the import and sale of new fur products.

Why not? I say burn it it all, just get rid of it. No one should benefit from the product of such suffering and death, especially as it's intentional, done for fat profits. The new bill calls for a ban on all new fur being imported or sold in the UK and would not apply to vintage items.
This is what I like to hear.Jones said: "Twenty years ago, a Labour government banned fur farming because it was cruel and inhumane.
"If we think it's cruel and inhumane to farm it, why are we importing it? It doesn't make sense."
The MP added: "Caged animals are kept in dreadful, inhumane conditions just to provide fur for a declining industry.
"Faux fur could do the job just as well."

Fur imported and sold in the UK should be banned says Welsh MP
A Welsh MP's call on the UK government to ban fur being imported and sold in the UK divides opinion.
