No, it's all on hold for now. Let's just leave the rebranding subject for now.

Thanks, really appreciated. Is it the one below? XF doesn't have thread numbers so one can't tell and I'd like to add your screenshot to it like I did with my 1000th thread, to really mark the occasion.

Feels nerdily good to have made that 2000th thread, doesn't it? :) Race you to 3000! ๐Ÿคฃ

Oh yeah, you should do one of those competition threads again and advertise NZ along with that competition!

Yeah, but have I linked to the right thead?! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

I'll do another competition thread if I feel it will actually help and that certainly isn't now, unfortunately.

Right, while significant developments to the forum continue to remain on hold for now due to the Online Safety Act and what I'm gonna do about it, I've thought of another potential domain:

oldskoolforums.com

It's a little on the long side for me, but I really like it for the following reasons:
  1. It's a .com. This is critical, as I've wanted this since I first created this forum and is the default TLD everyone thinks of
  2. This is an old skool forum, of the classic style from the early 2000s as several people have commented recently, so the domain name describes it perfectly and fosters a feeling of being part of an enthusiast community who prefer this kind of forum to the likes of Facebook. This name makes a feature of its "classic" form and function.
  3. My username, Retro, fits it perfectly, even better than NerdZone.
  4. It's a catchy name and easy to type.
  5. It shortens to OSF which is also catchy and convenient to type when referencing it in conversation. Can't beat NZ though. ;)
What do you all think of it?

Note that I've also registered oldskoolforum.com as a protection domain as it's so similar so don't want anyone potentially snaffling it and passing off.

I donโ€™t suppose โ€œoldschoolforum.comโ€ (with correct spelling) is availableโ€ฆ?

Iโ€™ve just grown up all my life with brand names all around me that use misspelled words, it seems like a cheap and low-effort way of being distinctive, or like a shabby cliche.

Right off the top of my head I can think of a dozen brands that do that. Those brands convey to me a sort of corny or cringy or fake sense of โ€œweโ€™re being fun and different!โ€ I picture an obese, middle-aged, bald, stuffy executive in a suit, standing in a white corporate office and describing what he THINKS is โ€œfun and differentโ€ but is actually a boring, business-driven idea.

No, that one's taken and there's an actual forum on it, but good suggestion.

I get what your saying about misspellings and I agree with you, but in this context it's actually the correct spelling as it's supposed to convey something. Google's AI can explain it much better than I can:

(Iโ€™m not that invested either way, just wanted to offer that point of view which it seems like you acknowledge. Soโ€ฆ ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ)

I for one like oldskool better than oldschool. I see what Peter means with his argument of cigar smoking executives coming up with names like these to awkwardly sound hip and cool, but as a counterargument I know some legit underground DJs (so no commercial marketing teams behind them, just dudes mixing for the love of the beats) who actually and unironically use that spelling.

I'm one of the people who have said this. 1000023410.gif
This forum -in style- reminds me of Hype.fm, an EDM forum I used to frequent a good two decades ago. I could well imagine a section there about "oldskool rave" or something like that if that forum were still to exist today. So you know what, I think it fits!

DJ Retro, spin that oldskool shit! 1000023411.gif

I prefer this:
"Note that I've also registered oldskoolforum.com as a protection domain as it's so similar so don't want anyone potentially snaffling it and passing off."
without the plural. :)

@Hitcore cool, nice to have a thumbs up for the proposed name. :) btw I can't read the first word in that logo no matter how hard I squint. What is it?

@data66 I did consider that, especially as it's a character shorter, but the plural version just seems to flow better in my opinion. However, whichever one I go with eventually, the other will redirect to it, so you could still bookmark it like that if you wanted to.
