I get that, but I still think it needs a change as most people won't identify as nerds. Gotta make it more inclusive, basically. Nothing is guaranteed of course and it might make no difference. Just gotta try it.

...... It would be super great imo if you consider adding some kinda slogan about diverse minds or some kinda statement “welcoming to neurodivergent people and people with differing viewpoints” 🙂 I want this community to gain the attention it deserves!!! You’ve got this @Retro 💪 Never sell your values short :D
No one is selling their values short here, where did you get this impression?

Regarding your suggestion highlighted above, the answer is No.
I mean, why make a special mention of welcoming neurodivergent people? Why not make a special mention of welcoming 'people of colour', 'gays and lesbians', 'down syndrome folks', 'Muslims', 'vegans'.......Get the gist?

Since inception, this forum has been non discriminatory and open to all, and the intention is to continue in this vein.
Any mention of a particular group of people or a particular ideology, would therefore defeat this intention.

My understanding is that you are quite the techie, why don't you start a forum of your own, dedicated to neurodivergent folks?

The thing about Dutch is that it is one of the closest languages to English. So oftentimes, to the anglophone, simple phrases are in some sort of uncanny valley, where you basically get what it means, but the spelling looks almost unreal.

Hitcore you got me there; as I am curious about languages and love grammar (ok, so I am a nerd, so what), and seeing what you said about Dutch being close to English, then here is my translation of your reply: ok Mars, I shall do this, thanks!
Awaiting your corrections:)

most people won't identify as nerds.
Since you weren’t at first aware of the positive shift in uses of “nerd,” I might as well ask if you were aware of its expanding scope too? Nowadays it doesn’t just mean someone interested in books or computers.

Just think of how in the 60s or 70s, kids who read comic books were considered nerds—and now think of how Marvel has become a trillion-dollar Hollywood franchise with fully mainstream appeal.

Someone can be a “nerd” about movies or TV shows or crafts or makeup or music or theater or … yes, in modern times I’ve even heard the phrase “sports nerd.”

Basically everyone can be a nerd in something now. They don’t have to identify as a “nerd” in general; it usually refers to a hobby or area of special interest they have. And I would hesitate to assume what portion of the population sees it as an exclusive category.

@petermarkley yes, of course I'm aware of its modern usage. This is why I called it NerdZone, duh!

Doesn't change the fact that most people don't consider themselves as such and there's still some negative connotations there, albeit much less than before.

@AllThingsTech yeah, it's a bit of a shame to part with NZ, I like it's shortness and catchiness especially, but remember I will always have the domain which will redirect here, or all the links will break. Hence you could still bookmark it and when you click that bookmark, you might see it for a fleeting moment before the URL in the address bar switches to oldskoolforums.com. Heck, if you have a slower computer on a slower connection, you might see it for a full second! lol

I’m referring to SEO.
I just see the term “neurodiversity” as open and inclusive and same goes for “nerd” and “lgbt”.

What are @Retro ‘s thoughts?
Open to all including animal lovers, neurodiverse ppl, lgbt ppl and the rest of the world!

All good points there, especially the bold bits.

Whoda thunk it that running a forum also requires marketing skills, eh? Yet it does and if this forum was set up to make money through advertising, which it might one day, then it would be an order of magnitude more important to get this right.

No corrections needed! You've nailed it!
I rest my case. 😎
Well then, this only goes to show that you were right in what you said about Dutch and English. You said: "simple phrases are in some sort of uncanny valley, where you basically get what it means, but the spelling looks almost unreal".

So, I hear what you say and am looking at that simple phrase 'Oké Mars, dat zal ik doen, bedankt!' and i think, well, the beginning is obvious. Then I read dat (That?), zal(shall?), ik (I?), doen (do?).
Sounds stilted in English, but this is actually how you would build the sentence in Latin. Latin loves to put the verb at the end.
Also, I know a little German, and 'ik' and 'bedankt' sounded familiar.

I warned you @Hitcore, me is a Grammar Nerd🙃

Yes, you are, Mars, indeed you are.
I haven't even thought of the Latin order, as my native language is for me just the default.
You are spot on with those words. With a direct translation - word for word - it looks like this:

Oké Mars, dat zal ik doen, bedankt!
Okay Mars, that shall I do, thanks!

You've mentioned recently that you know a bit of German. That greatly helps when reading Dutch. In German the sentence would be:

Ok, Mars, das soll ich tun, danke!

Also pretty similar, is it not? Here the explanation:

I've made one tiny step towards the rebrand. The new domain now points to the forum's IP addess. Note that your browser and a/v will probably throw up lots of scary looking warnings at this stage. Just accept the "risks" and you'll see that you get to here. When it's all done, those will disappear as the SSL cert will be in place for the new domain.

Hopefully Xenforo SaaS offering has the ability to do rewrites also. Otherwise, you will lose any link traction the site may have had.

Do you intend to switch up the redirect with NZ to oldskoolforums as opposed to vice versa? :P
