OK, so I guess most, if not all of us will be familiar with Ocean Software's adaptation of the original Robocop movie, released for the Speccy/C64/CPC and the Amiga/ST. Most of us will likely also be familiar with Data East's excellent arcade game, produced under license from Ocean (the reverse of the traditional route). While the version on the home computers was well received - considered one of the best movie adaptations Ocean ever produced, certainly - the arcade version looked a lot better, thanks to full screen scrolling and (slightly) larger, more colourful sprites.

Well, now there's a guy making an Amiga version of the arcade game - full-screen scrolling and all - which appears to be using Blitz Basic 2

Looks pretty spiffy, and there are loads of updates, going back a few months. The same guy is also working on Kung Fu Master and Wonder Boy, amongst others.

Looks like there's some competition ramping up in the 'Amiga Conversion of Arcade Robocop' stakes, with this AGA version appearing during last week:

Early stages, but looking nice and smooth. It also features the background details (sometimes) absent from the standard version linked in the previous post.

One small detail that struck me as quite clever is that the 'foreground' cloud details are on the same plane as the buildings, with the 'background' clouds being on the same plane as the buildings visible in the distant background as Robocop crosses the road in the middle of the level, or behind the lower-level foreground buildings in the second half of the level.

Kind of reminds me of the way some programmers have described treating backgrounds as large sprites in and of themselves...

Another update on the AGA version... Not much has changed on the surface, but now the arcade game's music is playing, and there's a little surprise at the end:

The notes mention that sound effects have also been implemented, but they're not demonstrated in the video...
