@Hitcore you be careful out on your scooter in bad weather, pretty please. That sounds like an ominous picture of you racing the weather to get to where you need to go safely. :)

Best summer ever 🤩

Edit:

Another reason why I like this weather type so much is because these are the days when it's not very likely that I'm getting dragged into some stupid and expensive social events.

Read some weather news in the Dutch Teletext app (yeah we still have our Ceefax):

"The UK is bracing itself for summer storm Floris, with wind gusts up to 145 km/h. A number of train and ferry services already have been scrapped, and possibly some flights at a later time."

Hang on, Britishes, be safe! 🌬️💨🌪️

Sometimes global warming fails us and we get unusually cold weather, like in Australia at the moment which should help to fuel all the climate change denialists out there. Check out the blizzards, lots of pictures in the article.

Several towns in eastern Australia were blanketed with their thickest layer of snow in decades as wild weather swept the area over the weekend.

Cars, roofs and gardens were completely white as a cold air front dropped as much as 16in (40cm) of snow on parts of northern New South Wales on Saturday, the most since the mid-1980s.

Snow also settled in areas of the neighbouring state of Queensland for the first time in ten years, Miriam Bradbury, a meteorologist at Australia’s weather bureau, said.

We miss Ozzy! 🧑‍🎤 He certainly was the Blizzard of Oz.❄️

I didn't think Australia could have snow, but there it is. Since this is the end of our summer, it must be the end of their winter.

Just hot here in Texas....hot for another two months.

Arizona has one of the snowiest cities in the nation.... Flagstaff.

Flagstaff is the third-snowiest city in the U.S., receiving 95.7 inches (7.9 feet) of snow this past winter. This is likely because Flagstaff is at a high elevation of nearly 7,000 feet, which is higher than Denver Colorado at 5,280 feet.

Good stat article @live627 for snowiest city. I usually think of Arizona as very hot and forget the north boundary of Arizona meets Utah.

Sorry to see @Retro you all are in another heat wave. From your link it looks like the rain isn't going to cool down the heat either and you all are in this heat wave for several days. :(

Ok, this is a new one on me: delete old emails to save water in this hot weather. Nah, doesn't sound right to me. Pushing* data around consumes more power, not simply storing it. Looks like someone at the Environment Agency doesn't know how computers work, which isn't surprising really.

Old emails should be deleted to save water, officials have told the public.

Emails and photos stored in the cloud are maintained by vast data centres, which consume so much energy that they require large amounts of water to keep cool.

Five areas of Britain are now officially in drought, with six more in prolonged dry weather status, according to an update from the National Drought Group.

The advice to delete old emails was issued by the Environment Agency as Britain faces its fourth heatwave of the summer. Temperatures are expected to soar to the mid-30s this week, which would make the UK hotter than Bali.

*Think about when one is playing a video game on a PC, especially a modern high performance shooter: the CPU and GPU both heat up significantly and consume much more power as they're pushing around a lot of data to run the simulation and the clock speeds are also increased. However, the storage devices, SSDs and HDDs, run at the same temperature regardless of how much data is stored on them. Top tip: they're always carrying the maximum amount of data, ie completely "full" even when "empty". The only thing that changes are the filing system pointers saying which sectors hold valid data. It doesn't matter to the drive what bit patterns they store.

I just read your article thinking I might be persuaded *a little* in thinking if I delete my emails I might save water and sadly, I concluded the same opinion as I went into the article; nope. Thanks for your illustration on video gaming and heat usage versus files that don't cause heat usage. On a side note, I also never thought that the UK would have drought conditions after reading your article. That would be my "just learned something new today". :)

Oh yeah, the UK has had summer hosepipe bans for decades now and of course they're only gonna become more frequent as the world warms.

That's pretty restrictive to ban watering your lawn by hand. We have watering restrictions all year long. We can only water on certain days, in certain hours and can not have any run off on the streets as there are fines.

Looks like a couple of small drops of rain are due for the UK.

Weather maps reveal two enormous rainstorms could shortly engulf the entire nation.

The storms appear poised to plague the country following millions of Brits basking in a glorious Bank Holiday weekend. GFS weather model charts reveal a double blow heading directly for the British Isles, with rainfall set to drench Ireland and the UK entirely.

The initial storm is charted to arrive on August 30. At 6am, maps reveal heavy downpours soaking Hampshire, Somerset, Herefordshire and southern Wales with a staggering 10mm of rain per hour.

These legendary dust storms do not happen very often because they require strong downdrafts from very large storms.

@Retro I hope your forecasted rain storms coming through will not be as severe as expected and won't cause a lot of flooding.

@live627 I saw some of the pictures from the haboob that came in to Phoenix on the weather channel and was astonished at the power of this dust storm. Your video really puts into perspective the power of the wind. I hope everyone is okay and there isn't much damage.

I hope your weather in the UK is going well with all of your rain.

We had a severe storm this morning. Cloud to ground lightening. Someone lost a tree or something in our neighborhood as the lightening flash was blinding.

Yeah, it's just miserable British weather is all, all rainy and wet lol. However, it's relatively warm so I've currently got the windows open and the fan blowing.

I suppose your "miserable" British weather can be compared to our miserable hot summers. We had an unexpected mild summer. I'm thinking ahead to winter now and I'm hoping that doesn't mean we will have a harsh winter since our temps really didn't stay miserable for three months in the summer, as usual. For September, our temps are well below the norm already, which is also strange, including our rainy weather. 🤔

Did you know that the names for UK storms are chosen from public suggestions? Here are the ones for 25/26.

The first of September marks the beginning of autumn in the meteorological world as well as the start of the annual 'storm season'.

It also heralds a new list of storm names as chosen by members of the public.

This year look out for Amy, Bram and Chandra which are due to be the first few named storms of the season.

They are named by the UK Met Office, Ireland's Met Éireann or the Netherlands' KNMI when they are forecast to cause "medium" or "high" impacts.

@Tiffany, Here we now have sporadic rains, cloudless blue skies, rains again....a 5 minutes downpour, and then clear skies again.
Autumn is in then air. Lovely.
Yesterday afternoon, took myself and my umbie to the park to feed the pigeons. Rained on the way there; I persevered. (back to my childhood days....).
By the time I entered the park the skies had cleared and the pigeons were gathered on the grass. Lovely to see them, flocking to get at the bread and seeds; all finished in no time, and not a word of 'thank you'. But I don't care, I love to feed them; them and the squirrels too. 🕊️
