Blue shirt dude is right about attention.
I knew that cats have two languages, one for between cats and one for humans. I've once heard that the sounds cats make for us are roughly on the same frequency as the sounds human infants make, and that cats instinctively know that we are likely to react to it. This aligns quite well with the story being told in this video.
To answer your other question: in Dutch we write "miauw", but as far as English goes I am more inclined to write "meow".
Can I take that little kitten home? It's frightful/needy meow won me over instantly and the mom cat was such a good mommy worrying about her baby kitten.
Animals are so smart and when you spend enough time with them they read you well, just like you know them well. They can't speak words, but we always know when they need something from tummy aches to allergy issues. I also love when my dogs will paw at me to pet them. I love the language of animals.
