    15 Years of Fermi

15 years ago today on the 26th of March 2010, Nvidia unveiled their new directx11 GTX 480 and GTX 470 at the PAX east expo. They weren’t the first out with a DX11 card though – that was AMD with the Radeon HD 5870.I never had one of these cards so there isn’t a huge nostalgia hit for me, but for...

Atomic Heart Vs MSI GTX470: Will it run?

I've been slowly building up a stockpile of 70 class cards over the last year with the aim of seeing how they all stack up against each other. While testing the GTX 470 I thought to myself 'I wonder if it'll run Atomic Heart?'. Atomic Heart was released in Feb 2023 a full 13 years after the 470...

Does anyone remember the ROBOTA trailer?

By the power of AI upscaling, I have rejiggered the old 480x260 quicktime mov into an almost HD video! Hurrah! I have the book arriving soon, and I've uncovered some more info on the concept/project after trawling the internet.

    Testing out TOPAZ Video AI

That was me about 16 years ago in Laos. Sucky selfie cam on that phone! Topaz was set to render out at 60fps, but because the input video was so low quality, it just smears.. crap in - crap out!

    I bought 2 (actually 3) dead motherboards..

Well i'm getting a full refund on the Asus so there's that! The MSI is toast - possibly fixable but not by me! I'll put it up for sale pointing out the steps I took that didn't work. Maybe someone with an electrical workbench and drawers of resistors will be able to get it working? The last one...

    I bought 2 (actually 3) dead motherboards..

Sometimes you try and save a buck by buying used, after all - it could be a bargain! Don't get me wrong.. it mostly has been from my experience, just not this time. 2 dead AM4 boards and the old Socket 7 at the end of the video? Dead too..

Old clicky drives! Just to listen to

Sometimes I really miss the 'clickity clack' of old hard disks. If you're as nerdy as I am you might want to have a listen as well, so here are some hard drives starting up! Did this need to be in 4K? Absolutely not..

    Far Cry E3 2002 Demo

Howdy folks, I have a new video out on the Far Cry E3 2002 Demo build - downloadable and playable (but only on Nvidia cards) and linked to here! More things tocome when I finally get around to them!

Deadpool and Wolverine: Posters created with A.I

Not too 'retro' I know! I'm super excited to see the new film, but while I wait to see it I thought i'd take some of the available A.I image creators through their paces to see what they might make out of 'Deadpool fighting Wolverine'. Predictably most of it is.. not great.. but some is amazing...

The return of Wellipets Frog Wellingtons

Decades ago, I remember her saying how unfair it was that only children could have Frog Wellies, and I have been searching ever since to find her a pair in case there were adult sizes anywhere. Recently I found the company had a waiting list for adult sizes! This is the journey of some adult...

Using a WireView module with a 6 pin GPU?

Hello!! Happy 2024 I guess! In this short video I sought to answer the question of if you can use a Thermal Grizzly WireView GPU unit on graphics cards that only have a 6 pin PCI-e connection. 'Wait a mo' I hear you ask, 'what the heck is a WireView?' Well all is explained on...

Alienware Area 51 M15x R1 GPU fail, or 'The nightmare before Christmas'.

I found this locally earlier in the year, and seeing as how it had what looked like 'light' graphics card problems I figured I'd try and fix it. This laptop has a trick (well lots actually) up it's sleeve you see - YOU CAN REPLACE THE GRAPHICS CARD.. I know! Right?? Well apparently it isn't as...
