Check out this fascinating video on various laser colours and their properties. I especially like the yellow laser and would love to have one, but at a safe 1mW power output that won't damage my eyesight.

I used to have a small 1mW, cheap, red one which was fascinating to play around with. Alas it was very old and doesn't work anymore.
