Self Contained Programs

I vaguely understand self contained programs, maybe using Linux terminology here but think the principle is the same but many programs come packaged now as flatpacks, appimages, snap, docker etc.

What do you call the packages that, when uncompressed you just run the executable file within the uncompressed folder? The folder usually contains many other files.

Zip files? That's just one format though, there's 7Zip and loads of others.

I guess they are all some form of compressed file when downloaded but just wondered if they had a specific 'app' name.

There's archives in the form of .exe programs. These are called self extracting archives.
