omg that full orange one! ❤️ When I see a cat which acts that affectionate to a stranger and meowing so strongly, I do wonder if they're actually crying out for help in some way. At least they got fed in the end and didn't look like they were in hardship.

Also, notice how the YouTubers went straight to pat the cats on the top of their heads and how they lifted their heads up to try to intercept their hands each time? That's because one should always offer their hand for the cat to sniff it which is what they're trying to do which they do to get to know you. Also, think about it, if someone comes up to you and tries to pat you on the head, it kinda looks a bit threatening, doesn't it? Hence, the correct approach is to offer your hand to be sniffed, give them a moment to do that, when they've finished, progress to stroking their cheeks and / or under the chin, then stroke their heads. This will all only take a few seconds, perhaps 20-40 depending on the exact interaction.

You are right. For this reason I do let the cat sniff a bit first. Got another video, same guy, same petting style. But you gotta love the sounds this kitty produces. Such happy meows! 😻

We really don't know, but it looks to me like the cats knew and recognized the person. Otherwise there is no way a street cat would allow anybody approach it, let alone pet it.
Either the cats were just outdoor cats, therefore used to people, or, if homeless moggies, they knew that person well. In the second video, the cat sitting on the car actually 'called out' to the person approaching it, it looked to me as if there was definitely recognition there.

This very talky cat is so adorable, check it out. ❤️ I think he could be a Siamese cross judging by that long face which they have and these tend to be very expressive like this. Oh and he's a rescue too, so gets the Retro Seal of Approval(tm).

Scooby's got character! 😻
He seems like a pretty clever feline fellow too, opening doors and everything. And definitely full of conversation. Cool name for a cat too, I've seen dogs named Scooby before but never a cat. Yet it fits him, somehow. Scooby has definitely earned that Retro Seal of Approval™!

Lovely kitty, yes he is probably a Siamese crossed with a long hair breed; you could never tire of having a conversation with him, as long as he gets what he wants;)

People, if you're looking at this thread and turning your heads sideways in incomprehension at what you're seeing, that's because I've merged my chatterbox cat thread into Hitcore's general talkative cats thread, since that came first.

My head did tilt and go sideways thinking I posted a response about a cat on the wrong thread lol! :ROFLMAO:

A good rule for greeting a dog is position your hand sideways to their head and snout. That way they always see your hand and don't feel threatened. If you approach a dog with your hand facing down and moving towards their head, that may get an unwanted response unless it's a family or friend dog that's well behaved and then it's cool.

Also, if a neighbor tells you to not look straight at her daughters dog in the eyes as the dog will attack you, take those instructions seriously. This happened to me a year ago. I always thought I was the dog whisperer, but this dog had serious behavior issues and shouldn't even be around adults.

Sorry, got off track, and....back to kitty cats. 🐈🐈

That's interesting, as I've always done it with the hand down and not had a problem as they were always keen to sniff and lick it, but maybe I just got lucky.

It's true that. Both cats and dogs don't like to be stared at directly and tend to see it as a threatening come-on, so could quite easily lash out, especially if they don't know you and have a tendency for aggression.

S'ok, don't worry about it. I prefer a flowing conversation and they do naturally meander all over the place in face to face chat, so I'm happy for that to happen here too.
