I do agree with how you have planned for your retirement; same. We've made numerous upgrades to our home in other areas and as necessary as a generator has become in Texas, the construction and issues that would come with it would be too disruptive. I'm glad you have the RV generators to help when you lose power. I can't even believe I'm having this type of conversation, but since February of 2021, we haven't been able to count on keeping the "lights on" if we should have any severe weather and that's sad. The only time I can recall we lost power for several days was back in the early 1970's when Texas got hit with a bad ice storm. We were without power for days and my dad, very cleverly got us through it with a warm burning fire, using camping gear to cook food and camping gear for lighting etc. We've always laughed at my mom's comment that she at least had her electric blanket when the power went out lol. Since that storm, I've not recalled any major power outage issues since, however, my area is a bit out in pseudo-country and we do tend to have issues with bad electrical storms, however, it usually is a short outage if we have one at all.
Severe winter storms in the forecast have a new meaning though to us.

I'm in one of the milder areas and yet today when walking towards my front door from the car, I nearly got blown over by a few gusts. I couldn't put the key in the lock fast enough! That was actually a bit scary.

Storm Eowyn, looked like a really severe storm on so many levels. Everything okay now?

We have potentially severe weather coming in on Wednesday. I think we will just have a lot of rain, but maybe a thunderstorm of some kind?

Yesterday, it was over 80F, today, it's freezing cold. Tomorrow, back to being warm. OMG, everyone I know and everyone else on the planet has been getting this mystery flu. I'm just getting over it. The weather doesn't help.

Hope you're feeling better, Tiffs.

In the meantime, the local colding of the UK continues. I just went out to get some petrol (gas in American :) ) and froze my ass off in 3C temperatures. Looks like it's gonna get even colder, -7C in some parts, although very cold weather is not so unusual for this time of year as February tends to be the real winter over here, not December.

Here I am February having to already mow because of red clover and dandelions sprouting and crickets and mosquitoes being out and about. I hope we get a really hard 3-7 day freeze in the next few weeks.

Same... we've had some green patches throughout the winter. I haven't seen the mosquitoes yet. I'm expecting the geckos to show up any day hanging on our doors as it's been so warm. I'm looking forward to the cold weather coming in this week too and hope we have a few good nights below 32F.

In TX it can be all 4 in 1 day + rain sideways
Lol, very true. We've been exceptionally warm and sunny this week and now a cold front is coming in this afternoon and changing the whole warm vibe we've had. Some rain coming in also. I don't know if it will be going sideways, but I'm sure we will have side ways rain when spring really kicks in and we have those volatile spring storms. 🌩️

We had a hail/thunderstorm last night. Funny, I always look at the weather forecast in the morning and night. Last night I took a look and the forecast still showed "just rain" however, the day before the forecast said storms. Well... they were wrong again (joking) but something happened last night and both my dh and I woke up and my husband said to me, "what's up weather girl, how did you miss this?" So in the middle of the night while hail is beating on our windows we are talking about the weather and calming two dogs. Needless to say, I've been tired all day. Now it's freaking cold.🥶

How's everyone's weather this week?

The weather round is here is your typical English "cold and miserable" with some occasional rain, nothing special, nothing extreme.

Your doggies are lucky to have you to offer them TLC during stressy times like these. ❤️

The cost of power has gone through the roof here too. It's painful to open up my bill. 😵‍💫

Same where I live. I don't use my heater very much, else my bill just isn't affordable. With these temperatures (between 17°F and 35°F) and no heating it has become quite chilly in the house. My indoor temperature is 6 or 7°C (like 45°F). But I've been doing this for a long time, way before any energy crisis even. I've been camping out a lot in even colder temperatures. The cold is something I was always able to handle much better than heat.

But yeah, I have a bit of a survival mindset. If some day things start hitting the fan and the power goes out during winter, then a lot of people won't know what's hitting them, while for me it would just be another Tuesday. 😄

Train yourself to handle cold, I can recommend it for both financial and practical reasons. You'll be surprised how well some cool ambient air makes a person sleep!

In February of 2021, Texas had a massive snow and ice storm with zero (F) degree temps. We lost power for several days. My house was registering in the 30's on the coldest first few days. Total survival mode. More power to you, no pun intended, of learning how to adapt to the cold and manage in the cold. You do sleep better with cooler temps as we turn our heat down too. I'm hoping Armageddon doesn't come anytime soon 😑 and as I'm writing this I'm listening to Highway to Hell lol.

Oh, you're from Texas? Nice! I did sense some southern hospitality there, I have a whole bunch of relatives in living mostly in Royse City. In the summer of 2004 I've even helped out with building my uncle's house. Spending a Texas summer doing some roofing is when I found out first hand where the term "redneck" is coming from! (picrelated)

Nice pick listening to Highway to Hell, lol. You literally could do that, Tiffany. It's quite a ride from Texas but it's possible! I give you: Hell, Michigan. And yes, during winter Hell does freeze over.

Speaking of which, you might wanna check out these videos by The 8-bit Guy, a YouTuber I follow (awesome channel!). He lives somewhere in the DFW area and he has experienced the harsh winter you speak of. After that he went full nerdmode on installing solar panels plus batteries in his house in order to have at least some extent of heating if needed. Then he did some testing, simulating how much backup-juice he would get in practice in case the power grid would go out again for a certain amount of time.

This is just to give you a main idea, your house may have different needs than his. But yeah, it's good to be prepared, in case Armageddon does come 😐

Nice you have relatives in Royse City. They get their share of severe storms in the spring and fall. I don't know why it happens but when the storms move from the west (Fortworth to Dallas) towards Greenville, the storms calm a bit after Dallas and really start up at Rockwall as they approach Greenville. One of these days I'm going to figure out the "why" that happens as I've watched the weather for many, many years and it's always the same cycle; a brief lull and then wham... severe storms towards East, Texas.

Texas summers are brutal if you're a roofer. I don't know how they do it? I can totally get how you related to the term "redneck" lol. Plus you get the ever glowing farmer's tan too.

Highway to Hell, Michigan, who knew lol? That would be a long drive and I bet Hell freezes over there. Very, very cold weather in that northern tier of America.

Thanks for the videos. I'll be interested to see what 8-bit Guy has to say about Texas winters and his "nerdmode" process for solar panels. No one trusts our power grid anymore since 2021's storm. Honestly, I've been here my whole life, but when the winter storm, Uri, hit Texas in February of 2021, that was the first storm I've ever seen with so much devastation and loss of life. Most winters are mild with exception of some cold weather in January and part of February, but since February of 2021, there's been some kind of major weather event which includes loss of power too in January or February.

On Armageddon, we got that covered in some ways😶‍🌫️, however, I wouldn't mind having a Rezvani and I just found this website when I was looking for the Rezvani's, Apocalypse6x6, omg!!

I am doing better thank you! Interesting that February is your worst winter month. Since 2021, Texas winters seem to have the harshest weather in mid-January to February. We have some super cold weather coming next week. I'm not thrilled. :(

I hate getting gas when it's super cold and windy. I usually try to cheat and sit in the car with the door open when it's filling. That's probably a no-no. 🫣

Your English weather is really my kind of weather.

Yes, my poor little dogs were so upset the other night. Luckily, the hail didn't last too long but the lightning continued for awhile. I'm looking forward to a weekend with milder temps before it gets super cold again.

Hope your weather is good this weekend!

Ya, that's naughty! :p In the UK, it's not possible to do this since one has to continuously press the trigger for the fuel to come out.

Glad your doggies have you to make them feel better. :)

Lol...I had a feeling that was naughty.:p Sometimes the trigger thingy doesn't work and you have to keep pressure on it anyway. I think I'll get gas Monday. We have bad weather with ice coming in Tuesday.

An Arctic cold is taking a plunge over the US this week with extremely cold temperatures and some states will have precipitation in various forms. I hope everyone does okay in this severe cold spell. I'm so over winter. I'll take 100F temperatures right now and promise not to complain.

Our severe cold weather has left us and moved on eastward! Yay! Now we have much warmer weather. I'll take it. Even my dogs are happy and want to hang outside a bit longer.

Is everyone ready for Spring? How's your weather? :)

Glad it's done with now, Tiffs.

It's still cold, miserable and rainy round here. However, temps are hovering around 12C during the day which feels quite mild really, so nothing to complain about. I'd rather take this weather than a scorching hot day anyday, as you know.

Me too! Now all of the warm weather buggy wildlife is back instantly with the warm weather. 😝

Sorry it's kind of still cold and miserable. Like you, I'm hoping we all don't have another hellish hot summer too.
