I know right? 
It's starting to get really frustrating to live here with all of the extreme weather every season. We long for a quiet beach, a rolling surf in a place with no earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, derechos, and droughts. Is that too much to ask mother nature?

Is that too much to ask mother nature?@Tiffany I agree a bear's den would be a safe place to hide in, when a storm is raging; providing the resident bear is not at home....
Didn't know what derecho meant, so googled it, and now I know: Frightening! I now understand why a bear's den seemed so inviting.
I feel for the folks that suffered the wrath of the storm. It is easy to wax lyrical about the awesome beauty and mighty power of Nature, until it all becomes too close and personal, when it then boils down to bad news and nothing else. I am so glad you people got thru it okay.
We have a large fig tree in our garden, I love that tree, but I can tell you it gets a bit scary when a strong wind is blowing.
Tell me, how were the doggies, did they react to the storm? Some dogs get very anxious in bad weather, even when they are indoors.
Here we have nice weather, some rains, some sun, lots of birds .
I am looking at your Bear's picture, give him a hug from me. (am I right, your Pomeranian is called Bear?)
Lol, to think that a resident bear might be in my cave for shelter.
Derecho's can be really damaging, and frightening, yes. Houston, Texas, had a derecho in May of 2024. There was so much flooding from all of the rain and intense 100mph winds along with serious property damage too.

I hope your little fig tree has a long life and the winds never harm it.
We just lost a tree that shares my yard with my neighbors yard. It was an evergreen that was affected by all of the winter storms and rain we had. My neighbor just replaced it with a brand new baby evergreen. 
I have two dogs that don't like storms and get very anxious. They used to be okay with storms until we had a lightening strike several years ago and the sound in my house was so loud. They have always remembered it and associate thunderous storms with that day. I've never had dogs scared of storms, because I'm pretty much not scared and chill, except the other night was unnerving. I have to hold both Snowy Bear and Gidget. Snowy can hear storms coming from a distance and he will start "pawing" at me to pick him up. Both Snowy and Gidget will pace and pant until I pick them up so, yes, in the middle of the night we help them get through it. They're like little babies. Champy Bear (my avvie) is just so happy anytime, so storms don't bother him at all.
Your weather sounds perfect! I hope you have a continued good weather week to enjoy. We have storms over the next few days. These storms should just be regular no big deal storms.

@Tiffany Just read the wiki article about the Houston derecho, really grim. As I've told you before, never heard the term 'straight-line wind' but now I know better. The article says people were killed, it says 100 miles per hour along with four tornadoes.
Jesus, as if that straight liner was not enough on its own, it had to bring tornadoes along with it to the party! Talking about a Force of Nature.....
In my mind I can only equate it to a hard straight blow to the face, which twists the neck so hard it breaks the junction with the spinal chord.
On a sweeter note, Champy Bear is my guy, a happy bunny not fazed by storms. Yet my heart goes for Snowy and Gidget, they just want mum and dad to cuddle them and hold them tight, bless their little pounding hearts.
You are so doing the right thing by offering them comfort and reassurance.
Our fig tree has got a lodger, I think. It is the first year I see a woodpigeon flying in with twigs in its beak, then out, and back in again with yet another twig. We'll see.
And may the newly planted baby evergreen that shares your yard grow to be strong and withstand the storms. You get attached to trees, don't you, especially when you know them from babyhood.

I have mixed feelings - while I’m glad it’s sunny as I can enjoy a good stroll around the block, it’s always frustrating that I have to remain indoors due to my working hours!

Ah yes same! Where in the UK are you based? Of course it’s always cooler up North. It can get very hot up here in London! I recommend you take a trip to Eastbourne beach when you’re struggling during the heatwave because a) You’re breathing fresh air by the seaside and b) It tends to be windy down there.

For me, can’t stand it when it’s hot and humid. However if it’s less humid with a breeeze then it’s not so bad.
e.g. I feel hotter when it’s 22 celsius, very humid and no breeze compared to 30 celsius, lower humidity and windy. A light drizzle of rain in the heat can be refreshing!

That's a little too specific if you don't mind, especially in public.
I've been to the beach in summer and yeah, it's great there.
