It's really hot at home now, but sitting right next to the fan at max speed makes it reasonably comfortable. If I have to move to other places, I quickly come back to my desk! I can also open the windows now that the air outside is cooler than that within.

When I opened a window a couple of times during the day, I could really feel the heat coming from it, so didn't leave it open for longer than necessary. Problem is there's heat with no wind during these heatwaves, so you can't even get a coolish breeze blowing through, just oppressive heat.

100, you'd best go outdoors now, Retro. It's lovely outside 🙂

We are unusually cooler for July with occasional pop up storms but still in the mid 90's (F) and upper 90's (F). I'll take it though. I don't feel like dashing from one tree to another to get out of the sun when I'm outside with my dogs lol.
Tiffany, talking about dogs....it was yesterday I was wandering down the stationery isle of a department store when I saw right in front of me the sweetest thing sitting in a baby stroller: a little Pomeranian the color of your Bear.

I was immediately smitten and wanted to stroke him, but asked his mum, and she said he is 'little nervous with people' (the lady was Polish).
So ok, I just stood there really close to him but not touching, looking at stuff, (as if.... in my head I was totally focused on the dog), when all of the sudden I feel a wet nose nudging my hand! omg. I look at his mum and she smiles and nods so I knew it was alright; so I did stroke him, on his little head and down his cheek, such soft soft fur down his little cheek. He was looking at me and he had this wonderful, warm look in his brown eyes, and he was not afraid.
And you know, I thought about you and your Pommies. You are one lucky lady.

How is Bear and Snowy with strangers? Is Gadget a scaredy one?

That's a lovely story Mars, made my day. ❤️
Yeah, that meeting in the stationery isle made my day as well; that little doggie was such a sweet thing sitting there in his little stroller, panting a bit, but we still made friends, that's the main thing.

Makes your day on a Friday night, doesn't it <3
If you had to choose between cats and dogs what would you choose?
@Retro @Tiffany @Mars and anyone else of course 🙂

ppl, it looks like the heatwave is set to peak to today with temperatures over 34C.

The third heatwave to hit the UK this summer is set to peak on Saturday, forecasters have said, with highs of more than 34C possible in some areas.

Amber heat health alerts are in place for the Midlands and southern and eastern England until 9am on Monday, warning of a potential rise in deaths, particularly among those aged 65 and over or with health conditions.

Temperatures hit 34.7C at Astwood Bank, near Worcester, on Friday, according to the Met Office, with similar or even higher temperatures expected on Saturday.
Global warming? Nah, complete figment of the imagination...

I assumed that London is always the hottest during heatwaves! Well, while it was on Monday and Tuesday of last week, it appears not so this time round, thankfully! 29C here today!

The giant laser in the sky is out to get us!
You know, that comment of yours made me think of why have ancient civilizations believed that there was a god up there in the sky, raining all hell upon earth.
We can really see how they would have believed there is a powerful being up there, fashioning lightning and whose roar is Thunder.

@Mars I really enjoyed hearing about your experience in the store meeting a sweet Pomeranian. I can only imagine how special your experience was in that moment. A lot of us tend to not live in our moments by capturing a moment in time that may have a lasting memory, instead we are too busy to "stop the world and get off" for a few minutes in our busy lives. If more of us take those moments like you did, we all would be stronger spiritually within ourselves and more aware of what life brings us daily that we tend to miss. Nice to read and I hope you have more encounters with some sweet animals to come.❤️

My Pom's are very friendly, too friendly actually. When people come over to my house, it's all about them, something Victoria Stilwell (dog trainer) would frown on. 🫣 We get through it by having treats at the door, so guests give them treats and then my Poms go on their way, at least for those few minutes lol. My Gidget, however, expects everyone to greet her at her little "perch" where she has her comfy bedding and blanket on the couch. She expects, no demands, a tummy rub. Gidget is an unusual Chihuahua as she's not scared of people and not nervous, except if it storms, which we had some storms last night and I couldn't move on my couch because Gidget and Snowy were almost sitting under my chin.😁

Back to weather... ☁️ Is everyone getting a reprieve on hot weather this week?

Oh, that's adorable. ❤️ Tiffany needs to get up, but doggies say no!

It's still really hot where I am, but the fan is helping. I'm about to turn off the PC as it kicks out significant heat in this weather. Don't worry though, as I'll be about on my iPhone.

News reports say that it should start cooling down from tomorrow.

I hope the weather forecast was spot on and you all are continuing to cool down a bit in the UK.

Looks like you are super hot now @live627 ... sorry that's still hot! 🥵

Our weird July with cooler than normal temps is now feeling like a typical July should. It's just hot.🔥

Wow that’s an oven!!! I’d be baked in < 1 second 😭
Yeah, not my kind of temperatures. I know them, really, done some roofing in a Texas summer.
The cold is more my thing. Living in Scandinavia is pretty cool (pun intended). I've also spent some time in eastern Ukraine (pre war, obviously). There I experienced a winter with -25C.... it was awesome.

Spot on, Tiffany, really spot on about having to stop the world and get off, once in a while....I mean, how often, while doing your shop, did you ever come across the loveliest little doggie sitting in his pram, and then, that shy little animal nuzzles your hand and lets you stroke him. It is gestures like this one, a gesture of trust coming from an animal, that I find so rewarding.

If you ask me, you are doing the right thing by letting your Poms run to the door to be rewarded by your guests with treats; what's wrong with that?
Victoria Stilwell ......she strides like a sergeant major, let her frown.

True, some dogs could easily be trained to sit as soon as they hear the doorbell, instead of rushing to the door, but it all depends on the character, breed and temperament, and size, of the dogs. You, as their mum, you know them best, and therefore you are in a position to decide what is the most effective method of training.

You made me laugh about Gidget and Snowy using you as their haven in the storm, but then I thought: what about Bear? is he the brave one then?
Just shows you, dogs, even of the same breed, differ in their individual character and in their reactions to life's situations; and therefore this would necessitate a slightly different approach in training.

You must have done something right with your Gidget. I am no expert on Chihuahuas, have only known two. The current one belongs to our neighbours across the street, and he certainly is not shy of raising his voice and bark, but touching him is not on the cards, as it would frighten the little one too much.
Your Gidget is quite unusual in the fact that she is trusting enough to let people, other then mum and dad, touch her tummy, let alone give her a tummy rub. How sweet is that! And if that's the case, could you kindly go and give her a tummy tickle from me now? thank you:)

Yup, these TV experts sometimes just gotta stamp their authority by being all strict about how the animals should behave, rather than doing what's right.

These are small dogs who cannot fulfill a guard dog function other than bark, so why not let them just be themselves? Even a dog that could, like a rottweiler or alsatian, training them to be aggressive to strangers is controversial at best. Just let them be who they are.

The cold is more my thing.
I don't like too hot or cold, but on balance I prefer cold as one can be warm and cosy by going into a heated house, car, shop etc. However, when it's hot, it's much harder to get rid of it, especially as so many homes don't have aircon and these heatwaves. Even when a home, shop or office does have it, it can still be sticky and uncomfortable, like it can't completely counter it.

@Mars Victoria Stilwell is like a drill sergeant isn't she, lol! Yes, each dog is different and requires different approaches to training. I recently trained my sweet Champy Bear how to spin on command. What really helped him put it together was when I went on my tippy-toes, arms up in a pirouette with the treat in my hand and spined for him calling out the command "spin" That sealed the deal lol. To answer, Champy Bear is also the coolest and chillest of the three and you can flip him on his back and he won't wiggle a bit, he will just stick out his tongue in complete relaxation while he gets held and loved on. Snowey has recently learned how to spin on command, but he took a different approach and a little longer lol. He would do a half way spin and walk off until he realized there was more to it and what got him was training him in the kitchen where there was food and also watching Champy spin. Champy is so silly, he can keep spinning if I ask him too, lol.

Gidget and Snowy are both a hot mess when it storms and that behavior got set off by a lightening strike that blew up my cable box. They have been scared of storms since, and they do cuddle close, omg, can't move during storms. They get a reprieve now in bad weather until about October. Gidget is pretty unique, yes and rarely barks. The only time she barks and growls is when the other two are heading outside and she thinks it's her job to herd them outside for me. It's the silliest thing, because my Pom's are herding dogs, not Chihuahuas. :ROFLMAO:

I just gave Gidget a tummy tickle from you. She was nearby, they are waiting for some dinner, I suppose I should get them some food.

@AllThingsTech stay cool!

@Hitcore Roofing in Texas is extremely challenging. That's hard work, both in hot and cold.

@Retro Same for me, I'd like moderate temperatures and neither on the extreme side. Yes to small dogs barking and I never thought of it that way as they don't have the mass of a big dog to defend themselves. Hope the heat is more tolerable this week.

What's cute and facepalmy is the way that a tiny dog can get all aggressive and up in the face of a big dog which then starts running scared from it. They really don't understand relative sizes, bless.

I so wish I could say hi to your dogs in person. I love the fluffball in your avatar especially. Sorry, forgot his name again. Perhaps give them an extra cuddle for me today? And if they sit on you, you're not allowed to move until their ready to allow you, no matter what. :p

It's hard to catch a break from dangerous weather nowadays here in the UK. I can definitely tell that there's a significant uptick now from previous years. Definitely no global warming. Nope, none.

@Retro all three of my furballs are sitting with me in my desk chair. I get the edge of it lol. Champy Bear is my avvie. I told all three of them, Snowy Bear, Gidget and Champy that you sent cuddles. It is facepalmy when the little dogs bark fiercely at bigger dogs. My dd had a friend in her childhood that would come to visit and bring her Vizsla dog with her. My dogs would go outside and chase this big dog around the yard. It was so funny as they were barking like they were big dawgs lol. The other funny thing is I learned that bid dogs like to cuddle like little dogs and her dog would go to sit in our laps. Nothing like 75 pound dog cuddles.😊

I just read your amber weather warning over flash floods and thunderstorms. I sure hope there isn't much flooding and everyone in the flood prone areas will be okay and safe. 🙏 Here in Texas, and most of the world is not over what happened in Kerrville and Travis County, Texas on July 4th over the flooding emergency that caused the Guadalupe river to rise about 30 feet.
